@JoyfulKiwi: oh yeah I forgot to mention, we were there for 2 weeks so it wouldn't have just been a weekend without those things..although even a weekend without would not have been enjoyable.
Plus we had another trip planned for even longer.

We drove to visit family when F was 3 months, but just couldn't fit all the things we use all the time (tub, bouncer, etc). I asked my family to see if they knew any families we could borrow stuff from (like hand-me-downs) and my parents bought a cheap bathtub and a bouncer to keep at their place. If they hadn't, we would have forgone the bouncer, but gotten a cheap tub (we were there for 2 weeks).

We bought duplicates for my parents' house, but we had to fly there. In the car you should be able to pack things like a bouncer.. We pretty much needed (so much as you can need gear) a swing. Dd wouldn't nap without it, unless 30 min cat naps after I "enthusiastically" swung her in my arms for another 30+ min... Every couple hours. Another swing was well worth it! (And right after that trip she started napping in her crib.. Go figure.)

For two weeks and you are driving, I would pack everything I could in the car.

How often are you at your parent's house? Depending on the item, might be worth it to buy one to keep there, so every time you don't have to transport back and forth. Like a bath tub, he will need one for awhile.

@looch: ack! I didn't even think about the bathtub.

@MamaMoose: yea, I forgot to mention that we were driving in my original post! Oops :)

@.twist.: I see you were driving. I thought you were flying (we had to fly which is why buying duplicates was really the only option). If you are driving I would just cram it all into the car!

I was just going to suggest one of those! I am in the market for one myself!

I would bring what you need, especially for sleeping. I just recently travelled with my son by car and I brought his bathtub...hes 2.5 years old, lol!

@looch: yes. With a dog and we are thinking about purchasing a rooftop storage rack thing.

@MamaMoose: that could work if I could find a cheap one!

@tinyperson: I'm sure my mom wouldn't complain about holding him all day. Haha

I'd say leave it home - if your parents are there, there should always be someone there to take him if you need to do something. At least that's what I've found visiting my parents...but, if he will only nap in it, then you might need to bring it I guess.

I didn't know if I should put this in travel or gear, so... Here it is, in travel.

We are going to BC for 2 weeks next week, which I'm super excited about.

I'm planning all the things I need to pack for L for while we're there. We are staying with my parents who live out there, so we pretty much have a house to use how we please.

My question is about items you use daily that are hard to pack. We use our bouncer all day long, I can carry it around from room to room if I need to get stuff done, sometimes he naps in it. But it's not exactly easy to pack. What do/would you do about an item like this that is so crucial in your regular day to day life? Bring it? Or go without?
