I say any progress is good progress! I feel like you are probably gaining muscle as well as losing weight.

Wagon Sr. has a iron gym in the doorway of our bathroom, so every time he passes through the doorway he stops and does a set of pullups. I tried to do one but I can't even hang without falling off! The second I take my feet off the ground I fall.

He got it used on craigslist for $15 :)

You can gain muscle by playing a game with charlie that involves lifting him over your head multiple times

I know for a man, 2-4 lbs is average weight loss a week but women 1-2 lbs. I think you're doing great. But altering your diet a little will help.

As for upper body muscles, is there an upper body desk option ;) kidding. Home DVDs work well. Insanity or P90x

@mrbee: Haha you're welcome :) Report back on whether that helps or not! I'm counting the days until I can go out for a real run again so for now talking about it has to be my running fix!

@Running Elley: Ah thanks, that's a great idea! I can't wear the shoes outside (they are my indoor treadmill shoes), but I can wear them around the house when I'm not on the treadmill maybe.

You are my running mentor. :) Many thanks!

@mrbee: Oh no!! It is really common. That's why people usually say to never wear new shoes for a race. It takes your feet/legs awhile to get used to the different weight of the shoe, etc. I usually gradually wear in new pairs of shoes (by wearing them on every other run, for example, until they don't kill my feet anymore). If I were you I'd start wearing the new ones for days where you're walking less at first or just out for actual errands to get your feet used to them.

@Running Elley: Actually the new pair of running shoes I got ended up killing my feet! I switched to an older pair of running shoes...

Is that common for new shoes to take a while to break in?

A pound a week is actually really good and is a healthy amount to lose. My husband's coworker doesn't have time to go to the gym anymore so he workout to exercise routines from this lady on YouTube.

Yup 1-2 lbs/week is healthy and *sustainable* weight loss, which is the name of the game. For muscle you can try some at home DVDs like P90X or Insanity but those required some effort!

Losing 1 pound a week is a healthy, realistic, maintainable weight loss. So I think you should be happy with your loss so far! That is really great progress for only 2 weeks.

It's been 2 1/2 weeks since I had a treadmill desk installed in my home office:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41PGo4KeHPL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

It took some time for me to get comfortable with standing all day, but it all got a lot easier once I figured out I needed to wear nice running shoes. I'm starting to walk more than 10k steps a few days a week, with the occasional day now and then where I will get closer to 20k. Ideally I'd like to walk 15k steps a day, but I'm not yet at that point. I did have one day where I walked almost 8 miles, which felt great.

Physically, I've been disappointed by the results: I've only lost 3.2 pounds in the last two weeks or so despite all this effort. That's waaay less than I had thought I would lose by standing and walking all day! But I guess this whole process of getting fit is going to take some time. Plus I probably need to adjust my diet; I have this problem where when I'm working out, I feel like I can eat whatever I want because I'm working out. Obviously self-defeating, so I'll have to adjust.

Overall, I feel like I'm on progress towards becoming more fit. I've done a million diets before, but this is the first time I've integrated exercise into my daily life. It's pretty sneaky because I'm addicted to work and now the only way I can work is by walking on a treadmill all day. I may have outsmarted my own lazy self!

Next up is muscle. How do I add muscles to my upper body without going to the gym... do I have to (heaven forbid) do pushups? Any other ideas?
