@ pre-pregnancy, I used Emergen-C. I swear by that. Not sure if you can take it while pregnant, so check with your doctor.

If you have a sore throat, I also swear by gargling with warm salt water morning and night. There is so much bacteria in your throat that spitting some out is actually helpful.

I just survived a cold a couple weeks ago. The only things I was allowed to take were Tylenol, Benedryl and Sudafed PE. The sudafed didn't do much for me so I broke down and got a Neti Pot to help clear out my sinuses.... wish I would have known how awesome those things were - INSTANT relief!

Hope you feel better soon!!

I've had two little colds so far in my pregnancy (I'm 22 weeks) and have only taken regular tylenol. I actually think not taking anything helps me get through it faster. When I used to medicate with nyquil and dayquil and stuff, my colds would always last forever.

Oh, and I take 500 mg of vitamin C every day with my prenatals.

ooooh the neti pot sounds amazing!

I feel MUCH better today. Tylenol, OJ, and 9.5 hours of sleep really helped : )

I took Tylenol Cold and Flu one night because I was so miserable, I was even making our dogs miserable. Then, in the morning (at 2am when I woke up because the drugs wore off and I didn't want to take more) I got on the internet and started finding bad news about Tylenol Cold and Flu. I had to trust that my OB wouldn't suggest something that wasn't good for the fetus but that stopped me in my tracks. I had a few more regular strength Tylenol's during my cold but that was it. I just suffered.

My docs only allow robitussum products for colds during pregnancy (beyond tylenol) but I believe there are only certain ones they allow. My docs also recommend the neti pot and a saline spray (no meds) to help with congestion. And steam from a shower or humidifier also seem to help! Feel better!

I was too paranoid to take anything so I used something similar to a neti pot, but it was more like squirt bottle with a saline solution. A humidifier and a saline spray (I used the baby version) is also great.

I used a humidifier and regular tylenol to keep my fever down. I tried tylenol cold once but it didn't work so I decided to notbkeep using it. I actually got better faster since I wasn't doing dayquil!

I second the neti pot! I recently called my nurse about dealing with allergies during pg and she told me no drugs other than tylenol, and just stick to the neti pot and saltwater nose sprays (but I'm in the 1st tri). She also suggested running a humidifier and/or an air purifier.

I second the vitamin C, but also drink lots of pure Orange juice. There are other foods with high vitamin C content, which should also help!
Also have Chicken Noodle soup, I don;t know what it is, but it always makes me feel better.

Ask your doctor - I couldn't take anything because of my high blood pressure, so you definitely want to make sure that you don't have anything that puts you at risk for taking cold medications before taking something.

Pre-pregnancy I always mega-dosed Vitamin C (1000mg an hour until your poo gets runny) and I did the same when I was 15 weeks.
At first I wasn't going to because I'd read something online about not taking too much vit C while pregnant, but lots of friends said "Meh... do it anyway." So I did. And it was fine.

When you say Tylenol, I’m not sure if you are just thinking of the headache pills or not. My OB said its fine to take Tylenol Cold medicine, just not the multi symptom types. The only one I could find that wasn’t multi-symptom (which the OB approved), was the liquid form “Tylenol Cold and Cough” (it’s a blue colored liquid, found in the cold section). It helped my cold tremendously.

Other than Tylenol anything you can take? I'm coming down with something and want to nip it in the bud. Will try to get more sleep tonight, but am in the middle of a 2 week long jury trial so taking it easy ain't an option. I'm 14+ weeks. Any suggestions??

Thanks!!

(PS - I can call my doc if it gets bad, but I am just beginning to get a cold and don't want to bother her yet).
