Our large neighborhood, and small neighborhood has trick-or-treating. Basically the entire city has outdoor, traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating on Sunday during the day. And then the Saturday before our small neighborhood (consisting of maybe 5-6 blocks) are having a family night time trick-or-treat and then a block party/pot luck! I'm really excited. We don't have children yet, but we plan on going and meeting some neighbors since we just moved in in June

Our church has a huge event (like 3,000 people attend) on Halloween each year and we have helped out with that in recent years. I imagine we'll do the same with LOs since there's such a big focus on it. I do have great memories of trick-or-treating as a kid, but I don't think it would be as fun for kids these days since there are fewer fellow trick-or-treaters.

Our community has an event before sundown so we get to do both. They close off main street downtown and all the businesses will hand out candy, so first we'll go there.

Then we'll come back to our neighborhood. One of us will hang back at the house and hand out candy, and LO, the grandparents, and the other parent will walk around the neighborhood. Our neighborhood goes all out decorating so Halloween here is a lot of fun!

Both for us this year (even though LO isn't here yet). We are doing a trunk-or-treating thing at our church on Sunday night, and then handing out candy to neighbors on actual Halloween.

For those of you who are planning on taking your child trick-or-treating, will you be going out in your neighborhood or to an organized community event?

A lot of businesses in our commuinity all convene at a local hotel for a trick-or-treating event. The hotel assigns each business a room, and then the kids can trick-or-treat in a safe, controlled environment. The neighborhood we currently live in is actually one of the only neighborhoods in town that still has trick-ot-treaters; most kids go to the community event, instead.

It actually makes me a little sad that so few neighborhoods have trick-or-treating anymore. I understand the appeal of a community event, but I guess nostalgia gets the best of me in this aspect; our kids will be trick-or-treating around the neighborhood.

What about you? How did you make your choice?
