@looch: a play clock is a great idea, thanks! i remember my parents used to ring a bell when it was time for dinner. i felt like it was a cattle call. maybe an egg timer would be more humane? :-)

@Andrea: I think that's a fair point, that there's an adjustment period.

What about getting a play clock, so you can set the hands to when time is up, like 6 pm, or whatever it is? It also reinforces/begins teaching the concept of time. I'd also try the egg timer!

@looch: good point! bribery doesn't work too well with my LO anyway. hopefully she will understand the new routine soon. it is new for her that the weather is warm enough for her to play outside for that long in the evenings so it's only fair that i give her some time to adjust.

I'd avoid bribing, it gets out of control. I see it already with my 15 month old.

I'd just pick him up and carry him inside for a few nights and see if it gets the message across that I'm in charge and play time is over.

Your lo seems to like watching you tube right? Maybe let her watch a few minutes if she comes in without fussing about it.

we went to a birthday party in tenafly yesterday where they had a big backyard with playset. charlie looooooved it. we also just started hanging out again in our backyard. we don't have a playset and charlie still loves it!

i think he is pretty easy to trick though most of the time.

@Mrs. Bee: haha, how cool! ok, let's see if glowsticks, ice cubes, or painting can trump our backyard playset!

@Mrs. Bee: not yet but i will try, thanks. the LO really doesn't like to play with anything in the bathtub so i kind of doubt that would tempt her inside. it is way more fun in the backyard!

Warm weather is great but it is posing a new challenge. Any ideas how to get my daughter back inside when it is time for her bath/bedtime routine?!? The setting a time limit thing isn't working. Maybe set an egg timer? I think I've seen my BIL do that.
