@enjollah: Actually DD kinda took over my SIL's Camelback while we were at her house for a visit so my SIL bought her one of her own!

My LO is 9.5 months and obsessed with drinking water. He started drinking right from our glasses (with our help) before he got the hang of his sippy cup. It took a couple of weeks of us tilting the sippy back for him before he was able to it himself. We started at 5.5 months and we offered water every time we offered solids.

Another vote for a regular straw here. My LO is crazy about drinking from a straw. I don't even think she's thirsty most of the time!

Honestly, we offered water at that age, but didn't worry if she was drinking much (she maybe got 2 ounces). I wouldn't be putting juice in the water yet though.

We've just always offered water at restaurants using a straw To keep him busy while we waited for food. Trapping a little water in the end of the straw and not letting go of suction until he sucked it out of the straw. This led to him using a straw sippy by 10 months.

That said, we were never instructed to give him any particular amounts of water by or ped, just to start cup drinking at 9 months.

At 7 months, LO is starting to get the hang of using a sippy/straw cup. She actually does really well drinking out of my Camelbak, so I may get one for her. The removable spout does worry me a little, but I won't give it to her without me supervising.

@Honeybee: I just remember I posted about this! (haha). Did your LO just start sipping from the Camelbak waterbottle when you first offered it?

I gave her a Zoli for water at 6 months. She played with the cup for a few days then started to actually drink from it about a week later. She drinks about 3-4 ounces a day at 8 months.

I gave Lo water using a regular straw. She also loved drinking water from her Zoli.

Just keep trying, gently, every day. I leave a sippy cup (like, the no-spill ones) on the floor with my baby while she's playing, so she can try to learn how to use it, and if I see her playing with it, I'll walk over and give her a drink. We also have it at the table every meal and give her water with her food. At first she totally didn't want it either or drink much, but slowly she's gotten much better. I don't put any juice in it.

Hmmm, we didn't start water until DD was over one, so I'm not sure how to do it with a baby...

DD loves her Camelback water bottle, and she loves when I put frozen fruit in her water as a "special treat." Otherwise, like I said, we didn't start until later, so we just limited her options to only water or milk, and she picked up on water pretty quickly.

As long as he's not constipated he's probably still getting enough fluids from BM or formula. I always have the sippy available during meal times with plain water in it. I offer it to him every few minutes. After 2 months he's just now starting to take it. His drinking the water has also coincided with a period of constipation. I think they just kind of "know" what they need. He needed more water and suddenly started to take it from the sippy and it solved the problem.

My LO started solids a month and a half ago and the doctor told us he should be drinking 2-4 ounces of water a day to help with the digestion/breakdown of solids. Ive tried giving him water through his bottle and a sippy cup but both don't work. I tried mixing apple juice with water, same thing. We're feeding him one meal of puréed food a day and sometimes the next day he will have very minimal poo and then a whole diaper full the following. He doesn't seem to show any pains/discomfort of constipation. I try everyday with the sippy cup. Any suggestions? Thanks!
