I've tried everything, and nothing has worked. I've been having contractions that are 10-15 minutes apart for 2 weeks, I've been 60% effaced for 3 weeks, and I've had almost every early sign of labor for a few weeks and the baby is so low I can barely walk. Still, spicy food, raspberry leaf tea, sex, nipple stimulation, walking, bouncing, pressure points- nothing seems to work :(

I was 38w6d and bounced on an excersize ball for the length of 2 entire movies around 7-10pm and went into labor (water broke) overnight that night. I did ALL the other tricks, but the only thing I had changed that night was the ball. Could have been coincidence, but I swear it helped!

@Ginabean3: I think no matter what, it won't be long! When I was admitted with my first, the doctor was telling me that people place so much importance on dilation but it's actually effacement that takes time. She said if you are very thinned out, it's not much work for your body to dilate after that but if you're dilating and effacing at the same rate, it can take longer. Given that you're 90% already, I'd say it's anytime now and when it happens, you'll probably dilate quickly!!

On that note, walking is what did it for me. I was a week late with LO1 so I decided to go to the zoo and walk, we did about 6 miles worth of walking and when we got back to the car, contractions started.

@GinaBean3: Yeah, it wasn't pretty, but whatever works. I should note though that we had had sex the week before with no dice. So it was probably a combination of him being ready and DTD to speed it up. He would probably have come on his own in the next day or two.

@2PeasinaPod: I had a pedicure one week before my due date, and had asked for parrafin to be used - cause it's so awesome. The policy of my spa is that they won't use it on pregnant women because it could induce labour. And I was like, yeah, and? Baby is already full term. But they wouldn't budge. I did get parrafin with my manicure, though. @GinaBean3: Maybe there is a spa nearby you that has a different policy. It was the last time I really spoiled myself, and I don't regret it at all; I had a massage, and a mani-pedi. Bonus if it induces labour.

@Ginabean3: I totally joked with the woman at the salon to do everything in her power to start things up. When I went to see her (long) after I had LO, I told her she was responsible for putting me in to labor, and thanked her.

I did everything you mentioned in your original post, and the only thing that worked was DTD. I didn't feel super sexy at the time, but I really wanted to get the show on the road. It really worked!

I lost my mucus plug right afterwards in the toilet, and my water broke 45 mins later, with timeable contractions starting at the same time. I showed up at the hospital at 100% effaced, and only 0.5 cm, but labour progressed really rapidly; I was fully dilated a couple of hours later. And baby was born less than 12 hrs after the initial labour started.

Good luck!

@Ginabean3: I ate pineapple, had sex, got a massage and had her hit those trigger points, walked/bounced/danced... contractions started about 6 hours after the massage, immediately after sex. I think it was that combo that did it for me! The only thing I regretted was the pineapple (I threw it all up during transition). Good luck!

Edit: OH, yeah. I also did nipple stimulation.

There's no surefire secret, but look into acupressure points! There are some on your hand and feet supposedly associated with staying contractions. Also, nipple stimulation!

I think a lot of these tricks will work, but only when you're ready! With DS, I went into labor after walking seven blocks... but the week before, I was going up and down nine flights of stairs every day (broken elevator) and nothing happened!

I did acupuncture, took evening primrose oil,
Used the labor ball, walked, ate pineapple- pretty Much everything but DTD. I was 3 cm and 80% effaced. What did it for me was a membrane sweep on my due date. I was in labor a few hours later.

My midwife has me walking, using evening primrose oil and she said the real kicker is sex. Every other day. I think she's forgetting what a circus end of pregnancy sex is, but she's insistent it's the best for getting labor going. I'm
Only 37w5d and we aren't managing sex every other day. Lol.

Give me the scoop Bees....
I'm 39w and have been at 1cm/90% effaced for the past three weeks. Haven't lost my mucous plug get or gotten my membranes swept. What are some natural remedies that I can do to get this party started?

Dr. says if nothing happens by next week he will sweep the membranes (shudder! ) but I'm hoping it won't come to that....he also said if the membrane sweep doesn't work then we need to start discussing induction because they don't want me to go past 41w.

I've been walking a lot, bouncing on an exercise ball, eating spicy foods....what else? I don't think I'm very comfortable with DTD at this point...I feel large and gross and when I went in for my cervical exam the dr. said my cervix was so thin he could feel baby's head! So the idea of DTD when baby's head is RIGHT THERE freaks me out.....

Share your advice please!!!
