Try to replicate as much as you can on the trip. His own room if possible. Duct tape garbage bags to the windows to black out. Sound machine if you use one. Sleep sack if you use one. Books from home if you use that as routine. Do things in the same order.
Stay on schedule. It should be fine.
We never strayed from schedule or routine on trips and both kids have slept exactly the same as they do at home - 1.5-2 hour naps, 12 hours overnight. Skipping a nap or napping on the go was never an option for us though. We’ll have many years where we can do whatever we want without worrying about naps or sleeps. For now this is our life and we’re ok with that. I think making sure they didn’t get overtired helped overall with the trip. There was no need to Retrain when we got home. Etc.

We just got back from a trip and DS turned 7 months while we were away. We had done sleep training about 3-4 weeks prior. I kept bedtime and routines the same. He went down fine at night. He had been at two wake ups at night and most nights woke up 3 times, a few nights 4. He napped way better though. At home it is a chore to get him down and to stay down. At my moms he went down easy every single time!

We’ve been home three days. The first couple nights were crappy. Last night I said to DH we were going to re sleep train and he only had one extra wake up, so almost back to normal.

I’d just try to keep things as similar as you can ... schedule as much as possible, white noise if you use it, block view of your bed if you’re sleeping in the same room but don’t usually, that sort of thing. I took my baby to my mom’s at 7m and she actually slept better there, I think because it was quieter. So different isn’t always bad! 7m was right when her sleep started improving a lot - the training plus her age must have just clicked. Good luck!

If it were me I’d expect the worst and hope for the best. I always do better managing my expectations. Kids are pretty resilient but in my experience new settings tend to shuffle things a bit. Have a good trip!

@Littlebit7: No time change, it's just a 4 hour drive from home. I should still be able to get him to sleep for the night at the same time, but naps may be off one or two of the days. And he'll be exactly 7 months when we go.

Is there a time change? Will you be able to preserve the schedule or will everything be up in the air?

How old is he?

So we're going (maybe?) on a week long trip in 3 weeks and I'm kinda worried about how he will sleep there. Do you think it's gonna just ruin all the sleep work done here? Or will it mean he sleeps well there too? (Assuming he finally gets the hang of it at home within the next 3 weeks). Is there anything I can do so that he doesnt regress on the trip?
