I picked up a wedge on sale at wal-mart for $5! I highly recommend. I didn't use it much in the beginning, but it is getting useful now for under my tummy, hip, or back depending on how I am choosing to position my body. I don't think they sell the one I got anymore, which is why it was so cheap.

But looks like there are some other good options: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Best-Rest-Pregnancy-Comfort-Wedge-Set-by-Leachco/2667885

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Leachco-Puff-Ease-Elevated-Wedge-Maternity-Pillow/25634557

Mine is quite small, so a longer one might be better. I also figure you could use it to elevate the crib mattress / baby while napping if they were stuffy as a bonus usage!

When I was pregnant sleep was awful. I bought a couple of small wedge-shaped pillows and would put them under my back so that while *technically* on my back, I was at enough of an angle to keep the pressure off.

For what it's worth, once the baby arrived I started sleeping MUCH better, even with middle of the night wake-ups!

@bluestriped bee: I couldn't sleep on my side either - I put a regular pillow behind my back and slept like that - so, sorta side and sorta on my back - as long as I wasn't flat on my back the Dr wasn't concerned

@Greentea: @MamaBear87: Oh, I'll try the body pillow.

@Mrs. Goose: Oh, a wedge! Didn't think of that.

@Truth Bombs: @sarac: I think in the beginning my OB wasn't concerned but when I asked her recently she said that I wouldn't necessarily feel pain if I was sleeping and reducing the blood supply to the babies. I assumed I would feel pain. I'm not a Dr so I have no idea. It's probably better to get a wedge to change my sleeping position.

I am an extremely firm believer in the idea that your body will not let you sleep in an unsafe way. I slept on my back as long as I possibly could, and then switched when I had to.

My doc was fine with back sleeping if it was the only was I could get comfortable. She assured me that your body will wake you up if blood supply to the baby is compromised.

I either hug my body pillow with part between my knees and a wedge pillow under my back so I can't roll onto it. Or I turn on my left side and put the little wedge pillow I bought under my tummy a bit and wrap the body pillow against my back and tuck it under me a bit so I can kind of sleep a bit on my back, but at quite an angle to the side if that makes sense. If you can put yourself on your back/side at an angle then that sounds like it would work the best for you. I am normally a tummy sleeper so the closest I can get to that is best for me. I find sleeping on my left side really uncomfortable for some reason and rarely do it. I find if I do I. can't sleep that way long and it makes me achy.

Maybe Google ways to sleep while pregnant for pictures. My friend had the snoogle and said she folded it into a ring sort of and used that to sleep on her back because she couldn't sleep on her side because of hip pain.

And couch sleeping to support your back while lying on your side works great depending on your couch. I did that one day for a nap while we were on vacation and it was great, so comfy and supportive feeling!

You might just need to add some more pillows once you find a technique! I find there can never be too many pillows in the bed now that I'm pregnant, it's a bit ridiculous. :) Good luck!

I sleep soundest on the couch with my back up against the back of the couch. Maybe try just a body pillow behind you? It wouldn't be curved so maybe your back wouldn't be arched.
I keep feeling like being pregnant is like being old. Everything hurts!

Yeah, I did some crazy stuff to sleep on my side when I was pregnant. I was so uncomfortable, at one point I was sleeping on a camp pad, several pillows... all on top of my mattress! ...A yoga mat  Anyhow... it was an adventure getting myself any sleep at all, especially on my side. Now, by the way, I can only sleep on my side!

I think I used two body pillows - one against my back so I couldn't roll that way and one kinda between my legs. I was always at at least the recommended angle, I'm pretty sure it is not that much- like 30 degree angle between back and side, is what you need. :goodluck:

Anyone uncomfortable sleeping on your side? I was sleeping on my back but my OB suggested I should start sleeping on my side now that I'm further along (25 weeks). She okay'd my back sleep up until now.

I'm definitely still much more comfortable on my back. When I wake and I'm on my back, I definitely change my position to one of my sides when I realize it. Up until this point I was using my U shaped pregnancy pillow but I think the pregnancy pillow is making me arch my back. (Like sleeping on my side but hunching forward or leaning back so the pillow support my back.) This past weekend I've been waking up with upper back middle of shoulders pain from sleeping on my side. Last night, I did not use my pregnancy pillow to see how I slept without it. My back feels better but I did wake up on my back but when I fixed my position to the side, my back was hurting again.

Anyone have this issue? I know it's better to sleep on my side for the babies but there has to be a way to support my back.
