If we just put a flat board under a new mattress (because there are only a few slats) I think it will be low enough. She CAN climb in now but I’d prefer lower. I could handle it for a night or two, but DH who weighs over 200 can feel the slats. I wouldn't put grandparents on it either. I like the head and footboard enough, but it’s kind of tall and has big drawers underneath that are kind of jacked up (previous owners had warned us about that). For now it’s a place to sit and read books before we put her in the crib, it’s creaky, and has an old mattress. I was thinking maybe we can get rid of the jacked up drawers and put a trundle bed underneath for future sleepovers, but the bed is higher than I’d like for a very short 3 year old (literally 2% for height). Are they always tall or just this one? </p>
