@rahlyrah: this is why i eat in my classroom and stay out of the teacher's lounge!!! can you eat in your car?...half joking ;)

i'd suck it up and try and eat as far away from her as possible. and maybe, if you feel up to it, eat with the kids once a week? not sure what grade you are working with, though...my kindergartners would see it as a treat, but 6th graders notsomuch ;) but if the administration saw you eating with kids once in a while, it might rack up some bonus points!

I agree that it might not be worth the confrontation if you're only going to be there another month, but does she do this to anyone else? If you (politely) speak up and (politely) express your annoyance, perhaps it will spare others the frustration of having to listen to her comments about their personal choices.

Some people are just busybodies...

I am a picky eater and I used to work a horrendous job where people (2 specifically) would make comments daily about my meals. I just smiled (fakely) and didn't respond and they got the point. I often also ate at my desk. I admit I did get a bit snarky sometimes too! I couldn't figure out why they picked on me when one lady used to eat canned mashed potatoes with tuna and salsa on them!!!!

I am a fairly straightforward person (generally saying what I think), but even I wouldn't in this case. Think of it as a test of strength and wait until you are hired full-time to say anything... and think of all the time you have to gather the awesome come-backs!

@rahlyrah: Oh girl! I feel for you. I'm dairy-free & gluten-free, so people ALWAYS have something to say about my food. I have a variety of friendly comebacks, but typically I just ignore them. What a nosey person, by the way!!! What business is it of hers? I'm not very confrontational, so I'd probably just ignore her. Good luck!

@rahlyrah: Yeah I can understand wanting to give him some space. I actually have a student teacher right now and her university does not allow student teachers to eat in the lounge. They are concerned that teachers lounges tend to be negative and don't want the student teachers eating in that environment. My lounge really isn't that bad, but I was totally shocked when my student teacher told me that. Unfortunately for her, she has to eat in the cafeteria. Only 1 month for you though, you can do it!

That's ridiculous. I had someone say something to me at work one day while I was eating instant ramen. She said "You realize, you don't need to give into ALL of your pregnancy cravings."

I think the only way to get out of these situations sometimes is with humour. In my case, I told her that if I HAD been giving into all of my cravings, there would be an entire pie and case of Coke to go with my ramen. That shut her up fairly quickly.

@illumina Wow illumina that's a super annoying colleague! One of my friend's g/fs use to be annoying all the time and one day she asked if she annoyed any of us *she did it sort of half jokingly*... like why would you say that or ask that? I mean that's so annoying, she was definitely trying to start problems! So everyone there basically said yeah and then she was all hurt by our answer! Boohoo. If you don't want to hear the truth don't ask the question. Sorry for being mean but those type of people are really annoying to me. :)

I think you just have to hang in there.

However I don't practice what I preach... I've been in a kind of similar situation... I was planning my wedding at the same time as a colleague who sat in front of me. I didn't talk about my plans much unless anyone asked a specific question, whereas the colleague talked non stop, all day to anyone who would listen. I got the feeling she only asked me a question so she could tell me how that aspect of her wedding would be much better. Anyway, she was planning her honeymoon and talking about it to me and another colleague... I was having a particularly bad day and she must have noticed people weren't really listening and said "I bet you are all fed up with hearing about this..." and I snapped "actually, I am!". I regret being so mean but actually we heard a lot less from her after that!

ETA: this colleague used to ask me what I was having for dinner everyday, only to respond with how unhealthy it was!

Wow I'm totally going through "I'm super annoyed with a co-worker" right now!

Sometimes you might not understand why people do things and yes it's none of their business but some people are just hardwired to say things or do things that aren't really the social norm.

Normally I just smile and nod my head and move on. It's the only way to keep me from lashing out in some awful way. Also I reason out it's just work and I get to go home to my wonderful family at the end of the day. :)

So, I am kind of in tough situation. I am a student teacher doing my final year senior internship. I am trying my best to make a good impression on the school administration and faculty in hopes that I will get a job there next school year.

That being said, it is taking every ounce of patience in my body not to freak out on a fellow teacher (full time faculty, not student teacher). This lady feels the need to inspect my lunch on a daily basis. She constantly makes comments about how horrible I am eating. She makes me feel like a horrible mother because I drink gatorade, crystal light in my water, fat free turkey dogs, and pizza. She makes a snarky comment about my lunch at least every other week.. It drives me crazy!

I eat pretty healthy most of the time but it is unrealistic to eat healthy all of the time--especially when I am limited to a 20 minute lunch break. Even if I was throwing back Taco Bell every day though, it really shouldn't be any of her business.

What should I do? It makes my blood boil every time she says something. At first, I was just too shocked to say anything back. Now, I have to hold back the snark. The problem is that have to work with this broad every day and I don't want any drama/conflict because I really hope the school offers me a job.

My last day of internship is April 26th. Should I just force myself to endure her comments until then or I should tell her to keep her opinions to herself?

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
