Well, I guess yesterday's mammoth nap was a fluke. Today she napped for about two half hour sessions with a break in between (I tried to get her to sleep). I held her for one nap (sigh...I know). I just tried one last nap, and she is not trying to sleep (although that was in her bassinet and she may e having issues lying flat). Here's hoping for better sleep tonight (I hope!).

@BKCaribBaby: That is basically how we've felt/said every night since our LO was born.. haha!! His schedule settled around 4 months or so, but still there will be random days that he ends up taking only 2 45 minute naps... or 1 3 hour one... it's made me more 'go with the flow' because I've come to terms that I'm not in control :)

@Smurfette: @Mrs. Bee: Thanks! This is exciting for sure. I hope she keeps it up.

@Smurfette: She was like that last night at 2am when she usually just goes back to sleep. When will these kids learn?

@scg00387: I'm glad that I decided to not wake. Tonight should be an interesting experiment.

@BKCaribBaby: Crib RnP doesn't matter, it is success! At that age, R would wake up as soon as we put her down. At night once she fell asleep we had to hold her for 30 mins before we could put her in the RnP for bed.

@BKCaribBaby: I've never woken my LO (he's never napped longer than 3 hours, which is rare, usually napped 20-45 until he was 5 months and now does 1-2 hours twice a day). We found zero correlation between his day sleep & his night sleep. Do what works for you.. but I'd err on the side of not waking & if it messes with night sleep, wake next time :)

i wouldn't worry about day/night confusion! we've used blackout shades from day 1. they have little internal clocks!

She slept for over 2.5 hours! Let's see if she does this again!

@PurpleUnicorn: i have a beco as well, but she has a love/hare relationship with it. She used to get some crazy great naps in there. Now not so much. She's very alert and likes yo look around/ Maybe this will change, too.

@Smurfette: Well, she's not in the crib just yet. I just need to be able to put her down. We're using this month to slowly transition her to her own room and crib.

Sounds like you're doing exactly the right thing! At that age,she should have her days and nights straight, so I wouldn't worry about her sleeping all day and being up all night.

@BKCaribBaby: oh and i was going to suggest that at the very least if your LO has to nap on you, you should use a carrier - then you will be hands free! L has had many good naps in the beco and i can move around and do other things.

i never wake my baby! he is currently going on 2.5 hours for his morning nap. whether his naps are short or long, i never noticed if it relates to his night time sleep. he definitely does not have night and day confused either and we use blackout curtains and a fan at the moment.

LO is 5 mo - naps in her crib are with shades drawn and white noice on. We haven't had any day/night confusion problems. I think your LO is old enought that it won't be an issue.

I think it's probably okay that you're doing the black-out shades and white noise for naps. The only thing I'd do differently for naps is just not let her sleep TOO long. I always woke up Xander if he'd been asleep for two hours, just to make sure he didn't sleep all day and then be awake all night. Seemed to work fine for us. :)

@BKCaribBaby: We held for naps for a while too, it was a (frustrating) phase. We've always used black-out shades and white noise for night & naps and never had any issues. We just set a time (I think initially it was 8 or 9 and then moved earlier) that when he woke, we only fed/changed and kept the lights off. During the day, he had some "play" time where lights were on and there was activity.

For the past six (yes, that's right! SIX!) weeks I have been holding LO for naps. She was waking up as soon as I would put her down. First, it was holding and cradling her, but lately it's really been her almost laying flat across my lap sometimes. I can get up and move, but my hands are still not free. I decided last week that I can't do this anymore. I need my hands! She's 12 weeks as of yesterday.

@Mrs. Jacks post got me thinking about getting better about her naps. We usually do white noise and have black out shades in our bedroom where she is sleeping now at night (although not in her nursery where we hope to move her soon the shades are not as powerful).

I'm in the bedroom with her now after putting down the shades and turning on our machine, and she seems to be knocked out. My only worry now is that she will be confused between day and night even though she is now 12 weeks. Is that possible? Is she going to sleep all day and not at night? Clearly, slightly worried FTM here. Sigh...

Thanks for any insight you might have.
