Haha..I felt crazy when I trained early. like I was the only one but I was so pleased with the results. I did. Besides little pee is easier to clean up than big pee. ;)

I say go for it! I have a friend whose daughter was trained at 18 months. If the three day method doesn't work, you can always try it again a few months later.

I don't think it's crazy, I believe Mrs. Tic Tac Toe:'s showed early signs and she was successful in training around 18 months!

ETA: I was trained around 13 months through elimination communication (too early in my opinion) and I had bed wetting accidents until grade school!

@birdofafeather: It was just a few days! But, he caught on really quick. He's DEFINITELY not poopy-trained yet, and I'm anticipating that might take months because I just don't know if he's developmentally ready for it.

We just bought a potty! J has started telling us when he needs to go. Of course when we put him on his potty he won't go but I am hoping he is starting to associate the two. We also let him sit on it after bath for a while when we let him run around nakey :)

Keep me updated!

I read Diaper Free Before 3 (quite informative, found it at my library), and started with the little potty at 18 months. By 22 months, my daughter was ready to ditch diapers, though we didn't move to full time undies until about 25 months. Sounds like your LO is well ready for the approach suggested in that book. Good luck!

Our LO was pretty well potty trained by 18 months. She had a couple times of regressing where she'd pee at home a couple times a week but she'd often go weeks without having any accidents. We never bothered diapering her after 18 months, except at night, and she never had an accident while we were out. It was mainly just if she missed a nap or was in a pissy mood she'd be a floor pisser. But it was a lot less diapers to go through so even though it wasn't perfect I was happy enough.

@.twist.: Me too!

I'm all about trying! We've been introducing E to it for a while, including naked sitting on the potty time. We haven't pushed it only because they don't reinforce it at daycare until he's in the next room up, and we wanted to be consistent between there and home.

I want to try too! Lo is only 16 months. We bought a potty around 13 months and dh puts him on it before his bath every night. He doesn't use it, but he likes to flush haha :)

I think i am going to continue the way we are for a few more months and then the the 3 day method. If it works, cool. If not, we can try again in a month or so. I figure ill be able to tell if he is ready by the end of the first day. Lo isn't really talking much though, and doesn't show any interest in putting on or taking off his own clothes though, so i really don't have any idea if it will work at this point.

@birdofafeather: I've actually read a few places that there is usually a window period around 18 months where LOs become really aware of the whole diaper/potty thing. And if you can catch that opportunity to train, it can be done! Or else, it seems it happens around 2.5 y.o. Sooo I say, go for it! I've been meaning to read the book and try it around 18 months too! We have put the potty in the bathroom since she was walking. I always try to put her on it while I go to the bathroom, to get comfortable with it. Just recently she starts going to sit on it herself, so I'm hoping to catch that window period too!

@birdofafeather: She wanted to sit on the potty constantly, always saying she needed to "potty" or "poopy." She also hates to have a wet or stinky diaper.

We ran into that she just doesn't quite get her body's queues yet, she knows right after not enough to tell us before. If we put her on every so often she goes and gets excited, but her brain and body aren't communicating the "I need to go" feelings.

LO is 17 months and we're thinking of slowly starting to get her on a potty. She's been pointing to her diaper when she goes and she wants to be changed immediately. You're generally supposed to start when LO starts telling you before they go.

Go for it! We did a casual, slow (months long) introduction hoping that LO would just take over - no. But she was aware and had it down within 3 days. I say buckle down and try it for a few days. If it's too stressful you have plenty of time to try again in a few months.

I think you could try it. :) We just PT'd at 25 months and it wasn't too hard (although we have yet to master pooping (he saves it for naptime and nighttime when he's still in a diaper). What worked for us was just taking him every 30 minutes to potty and rewarded him every time his underwear were still dry, then slowly moved it to 45 minutes, then an hour. He still doesn't tell us when he has to go (but usually tells the truth when we ask him), but he hasn't had an accident in awhile because we just regularly put him on the toilet and he's figured out to hold it until then (or tell us, but that's rare).

I had liked the idea of the early potty training thing (more by slowly introducing it to her by casually sitting her on it, etc), but lately she has been sobbing when we change her diaper, doesn't want another one on, pulling it off if she has access, sticking her hand in her diaper, etc. She doesn't have a rash, her poops are 1-2 times a day.

We have been talking more and more about poop and pee pee and we know when she's going poop (and so does she because she likes to go off by herself to do so). i've been doing more research into PT, including slow methods and the 3-day method (recommended at 22 months) and wondering if i'm totally crazy for possibly trying the 3 day method in earnest sooner rather than later? if it's gonna take a while, i'm totally okay with that, but i guess because it seems like she's pretty aware right now (and it's kinda becoming a fight where as previous to a few weeks ago, diaper changes were a non-issue), it might be an ideal time to go for broke?

tell me if i'm crazy or not. potty training (learning, whatever!) is now my latest obsession! ha.

ETA: she's 18 months!
