@mrskansas: Really glad it came back normal! I'm hoping the bit of a break you took awhile back was exactly what your body needed to heal from the losses and get all your levels back to normal, and that you'll get your sticky bfp soon

@mrskansas: my value was 5.81 during 1st tri and the doc put me on supplements, stating that normal adults 20 yo or older should be between .40 and 4.50.

1st tri: .26-2.66
2nd tri: .55-2.73
3rd tri:.43-2.91

The supplements brought my levels to 1.84 which is within the normal range, as presented by my doctor.

She also said that Hyperthyroidism can cause a low IQ and that treating it during pregnancy has shown great results.

@skinnycow: My doctor does check it frequently during pregnancy, so if I'm able to get pregnant again, they will monitor it closely to make sure it stays in check.

@mrskansas: That's great!

I didn't see this thread the first time around but I have high-ish TSH (around 2.5). It's a non-issue when I'm not pregnant but I did have to take medication during my pregnancy. I haven't had major issues conceiving so I don't think it has had an impact on TTC for me personally. Depending on your OB's cutoff you may have to take medication when you get pregnant.

I recently met with our RE and they were discussing prior to getting my lap results that they really want the TSH on the low end of the range. So even if it was normal they would likely put me on a low dose medication to reduce it further. They were citing recent studies and I just trust in them. Good luck!

oh and ask to have your TSH level run as ultrasensitive TSH. It obviously is more sensitive but my RE and now endo prefer it that way, they say its much more accurate for pregnancy. I am lucky that I have been on the same dose of meds throughout pregnancy thus far but I still get my levels tested every 4-6 weeks.

You might want to read up on subclinical hypothyroidism.

I had to find a doctor that leans sort of toward functional medicine to treat mine. Mine had always been around 3 or 4 (which most considered "normal").

I'm not sure if it was a big part of the problem or not...but after getting it and a couple other things under control, I'm halfway through a pregnancy with no issues so far.

It's also important to find a doctor who will test you REGULARLY during pregnancy if you're on thyroid medication. Most doctors might test once a trimester. But thyroid levels can change rapidly in pregnancy.

My doctor wanted me at or below 2 when TTC, closer to 1 in the first trimester, and now between 1 and 1.5 in the second.

But it's also important to look at more than just TSH.

A lot of people in one of my infertility groups reference Stop the Thyroid Maddness (there's a website, and I think a Facebook group). I can only handle so many groups, so I haven't ventured there.

Something else to keep in mind...my levels went completely wonky after my last loss (I think TSH was above 4). I know you've had a lot of losses, so that could be part of what's happening. I needed to increase my dose of thyroid meds for a few months before it leveled out on it's own.

When you are TTC your TSH should be below 2.5. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but it took me a year to conceive my daughter (TSH was never tested) and after my loss (which had nothing to do with my thyroid) I was on levothyroxine so my TSH was under control and I got pregnant on the first try with my son. Normal levels are different when you are TTC/pregnant. It is really easy to get under control with meds so I hope it's an easy fix for you!

@snarkybiochemist: Did your RE think your infertility was directly related to your TSH level or if it was just a piece of the puzzle?

eta I will absolutely insist that they do the lab work tomorrow so I can get the results ASAP. I should be ovulating this week so if it does come back elevated I want meds immediately.

My RE wanted my TSH below 2 and in fact I didn't end up pregnant until it was below 1. I would definitely suggest having it retested and if it's borderline consider meds to get it to happy pregnancy levels.

Hi ladies.. I have an appointment with a RE tomorrow and was going over some lab work that was done back in February. I noticed that my TSH level was 3.02 which did not flag anything. After doing some research I found that levels should ideally be between 1-2.
I was 4 weeks pregnant at the time of the lab work, which, according to some online articles, can slightly raise TSH. I ended up losing that pregnancy shortly after but we knew the cause so it wasn't related to any thyroid problem. Before that loss I had one MC and one ectopic.
My TSH in October of 2016 was 1.98 and I was not pregnant at the time.

Should I be concerned about this level? I have had 2 or 3 chemical pregnancies since the lab work was done and now I'm feeling upset that my RE at the time didn't catch this.
I will definitely be requesting this be rechecked at my appointment tomorrow but I'm looking for some reassurance in the meantime.
