@lilyofthewest: Thanks for asking. So I ended up going in to emerg when I started bleeding heavily again and it lasted several days. Ended up having an ultrasound there which showed retained product but no Hydrosalpinx. I had a d&c. Have another follow up ultrasound in about 3 weeks and then an appointment with a reproductive endocrinologist in about 3 weeks too.

@lilyofthewest: also I didn't realize that a blighted ovum was always a chromosomal problem.
I've been worried that the possible Hydrosalpinx has been leaking fluid and preventing embryos from implanting properly.

I have a follow up us tomorrow then md appointment the following day. If there is any evidence of the hydro still ill be requesting and hsg for peace of mind I think.

I had 4 consecutive losses in just over a year (after a successful first pregnancy that is now my 3-year-old). One was a blighted ovum (which is always a chromosome problem) and the last was a rare trisomy. If the last was not a chromosomal problem I would have done extensive testing. As it was, I only tested things that might impact my overall health: thyroid and a1c.

Given that I’d had one successful pregnancy the odds that it was a chromosomal issue (like a balanced translocation) in me/my partner was astronomically low.

I did start taking a separate methylfolate supplement in addition to my prenatal. Multiple studies have found unexpected decreases in the incidence of trisomy-21 and -18 when folate/folic acid supplementation was introduced with the aim of reducing open neural tube defects.

After my first returned following my blighted ovum (my second loss), we tried and I conceived my daughter. I’m a believer that there is heightened fertility after a loss. I hope that is the case for you as well.

@FoolsintheRain: I didn't ovulate the first cycle (which is atypical for me), so it was somewhat of a moot point whether to take off or not. During that time we weren't trying, but I also didn't bother to prevent. Sending so many good thoughts and :goodluck:

agree with everything @catlady: wrote in her last paragraph re your situation.

I had two in a row while TTC my first baby and remember @crazydoglady: reassuring me, and I remember reassuring @periwinklebee: myself. It's so hard and the grief is real. My OB told me she thought I just had the bad luck to be unlucky twice in a row. I remember the urgent feeling that I had to DO something and get testing done and everything and advocate for myself. If I'd had a third m/c in a row I would have, but as it is with you getting pregnant fairly easily and having a successful first pregnancy, I'd say you probably also are just having a bad run :bummed:  I'm so sorry it's happening like this. Hang in there.

I'm so sorry. I had 3 losses, 1 before my first baby, then 2 more before my 2nd baby. No testing done b/c my 3rd loss was a chemical and they basically didn't think I was far enough along for it to "count". I actually switched OBs when I found out I was pregnant again after that and she mentioned that she would have run tests on me if I had been under her care then (luckily, that pregnancy was fine and it was my final one).

I skipped a month after both later m/c's because I needed intervention for both (misoprostol for my first, D&C for my 2nd). My chemical happened naturally so we tried again right after, although I did not get pregnant that cycle so it didn't matter.

Like others above, I agree that at 2 m/c's, it is impossible to know if it is just bad luck or something else. Definitely I'd try to get further testing if you have a 3rd. If you can get pregnant at all, that is a good thing, and the fact that you had a previously health birth is also great. I always tried to keep those facts in mind while dealing with the losses when we were trying for #2. I hope you get lucky like I did and the 3rd one is the charm. Hugs.

@FoolsintheRain: my ob said (also post d&c) that it was up to us. We didn’t wait (it took me 4 weeks to ovulate though) and while I didn’t see a bfp for a long while, I don’t regret it because i needed to move on and try. So Id say go with what feels right to you. I think there are many people in both camps based on past posts I’ve seen.

@crazydoglady: did you take a month off after th blighted ovum before you got pregnant? The gynaecologist who prescribed my misoprostol suggested taking a month off (let one period happen naturally) to let the uterine lining build back up.

I had two consecutive losses when trying to conceive my second child. I had to have a d&c for one of them and was able to confirm it was just a random chromosomal issue. I also had some infertility issues so my doctor did some baseline hormone testing and it was discovered that I had low AMH (which can correspond with lower quality eggs). My doctor explained that it would be a perseverance game for me as a result of this diagnosis. I did eventually go on to have a healthy pregnancy but had another loss trying to conceive kid #3 a few months ago. Best of luck. Multiple losses are such a mind game.

I'm sorry for your losses  I had two losses, one later in the first tri and one at 5 weeks. We did tests but didn't find underlying issues and learned that one of the losses was a random event. I now have a 5 month old. It really sucks but I think the above comments are right that often it is a numbers game and the best odds come from just continuing to try once you are ready. My RE told me that the most common diagnosis for repeat loss is unexplained.

Unexplained losses are so hard. We had 4 earlier unexplained losses (we did do the recommended testing for losses, but found nothing useful). And then an 11w loss where I had a d&c so I knew it was genetic (a rare trisomy) that time. But the best answer I ever got was - it’s probably genetic reasons (like the embryos just didn’t form right, which is bad luck to see multiple times), or it’s something we can’t test for, and you can either keep trying to beat the bad luck or you can do IVF with PGD.

We pretty much just continued to roll the dice ... so I had 2 losses then success, 2 losses then success, 1 loss then success (eventually - probably getting older made it harder to see another bfp that time). I’m due with #3 in less than 2 months. The journey can really mess with your head but I know many who have pushed through and eventually gotten their sticky baby. I wouldn’t give up hope yet. If the dr is willing to perform some testing then why not, but mostly I would say keep trying when you’re emotionally ready. I found it super helpful to have support on hb as it’s just different to go through especially early pregnancy after losses. Lots of hugs for the path forward

I don't have experience with hydrospalinx, but I did have two consecutive losses very similar to yours (a chemical pregnancy followed by a blighted ovum at 11 weeks.) I ended up getting pregnant with my son the very next month. I didn't end up doing any testing because the losses were so different from each other. It just seemed like a string of bad luck. My advice is to take care of yourself (take a break if needed) and don't lose hope. I'm very sorry for your losses. ❤

Hi all. Just had a second mc in 6 months. First was a cp at 5 weeks in Jan. Got pregnant again 3rd cycle after that to discover it was a blighted ovum at the 8week us. At that ultrasound the tech found a possible hydrospalinx on one side.
I have a follow up us next week and then an appointment with my family dr (Canadian). We are trying for our second and have a 2 yo dd who was conceived first cycle trying.

Any tips, suggestions, words of wisdom?? What do I advocate for? Where do I go from here?.
