My bloodwork showed Hypothyroidism many years ago, and it has contributed to a number of symptoms that I would love to be freed of. Due to my age (I'm young), I didn't want to be on a thyroid medication for many years with its side effects, so my doctor had me on a thyroid supplement and had me change my diet (no processed foods, no gluten, heavy emphasis on dark green leafy veggies and beef/chicken).

I am now very close to having no thyroid problems at all, so there is hope!! I know what it's like to be overwhelmed. Thyroid issues definitely affect everything else going on in your body, and we dealt with some ovulation and m/c problems so I know how difficult it can be trying to figure it all out.

thanks for all the encouragement ladies. I went to see an endo, and they are trying to get to the bottom of things.

In the meanwhile, I bought Mary Shamon's The Thyroid Hormone Breakthrough. After reading the book, I was completely overwhelmed, but then felt empowered.

I am hypo and it was diagnosed when I was already pregnant (but it was too early to tell) at a fertility appointment! I had no idea we'd already conceived, so the endocrinologist was checking my thyroid to figure out if that was one of my problems in trying to conceive. I am on a low dose of synthyroid now and just get it tested every couple of appointments with my OB to make sure I'm taking the correct amount. A lot of people have thyroid issues, it's no biggie :)

@missifu: Like Blushink said, I did have a total thyroidectomy and went on to eventually having a normal pregnancy and healthy baby. I'm not familiar with hypothryoidism, but I pretty sure both hypo and hyper can be well controlled with the proper dose of thyroid hormone. Also, the minute I found out we were pregnant, I made an appointment with my endocrinologist and made sure my prescription was adjusted accordingly. It is possible to conceive and have a healthy pregnancy with thyroid problems. Just make sure you're in the care of a good endocrinologist.

yep! I was diagnosed hypothyroid in August and started Synthroid immediately, and got pregnant in October. While you are pregnant, you need to get your levels checked monthly to be sure they are on track. It also required me to see a specialist in addition to my regular OB monthly, then bi-weekly, then weekly. As a bonus I got to have ultrasounds at every appt to check her growth =o) My OB is a perinatologist, so hes higher risk to begin with, but they just wanted to keep an eye on everything.

I would check out Mary Shamon's "The thyroid hormone breakthrough" it covers almost all thyroid issues and has a section on infertility. Great resource!

I would maybe try and reach out to Miss. Marbles? (blogger on HB) She had thyroid problems, then a cancer and then got pregnant. Maybe she can point you in the right direction?

hello ladies,

I know the internet can be an amazing source of info, but quite frankly I am freaking myself out. I am currently being examined for a plethora of random side effects that occurred after I came off the pill.

To make a long story short, I got of the pill, gained 15 pounds (along with other lousy side effects) and there was no period in sight. After seeing an RE, we did a bunch of tests and it turned out I am insulin resistant and have really low TSH, but normal T4 and T3. This prompted my doctor to make me get an MRI and sonogram of my thyroid, which shows that it is slightly enlarged. My antibodies were also elevated. In the meanwhile, I have had hypo symptoms. My RE has referred me to a regular endo (whom I will see in one week) and prescribed me the thyroid replacement pill.

We aren't thinking about TTC for a few more months, but I was told my thyroid issues need to be squared away before TTC. I know there may be other issues with TTC because I do not normally ovulate. All this being said, have any of you ladies had to deal with thyroid conditions and TTC? Advice and encouragement are welcome.
