@Claire.Peonies: We are only on cycle 2 TTC, but I know what you mean. We had a few friends who went off BC and got pregnant that month. Other friends who took a year (or longer). It's definitely one of those things that is just out of your control (which is really hard for me to deal with as a total Type A person). I was really hoping that we'd get pregnant round 1 and really let down when it didn't happen immediately. But I just have to keep in my mind my life mantra -- *it will all work out* and *gratitude*. I've also read that up to a year is normal for a healthy couple to conceive, so in the mean time, while we are working on the baby-making, I have to keep in mind all of the wonderful things we have going on in our lives and how thankful I am to have such a supportive SO, group of friends and the HB community. (Sorry for being so sappy on a Wednesday morning).

I try not to put too much stock in the "numbers" that are out there. I got pregant on our first attempt at age 34 and delivered my son at age 35. The way I look at it, you have no way of knowing what your normal time to get pregnant is, it's not a thing that exists out there for you to baseline against.

Best of luck, this community is great for support!

Welcome! I was 29 when TTC for #1, no none issues and it took us 9 cycles. Now we have a healthy beautiful LO who's almost 14 months!

It's frustrating but it just takes time!

Very normal. They say it takes on average 6 months for a healthy couple to conceive. Count your blessings that you have no medical issues getting in your way.

Absolutely normal. It took 11 cycles for me while charting and using OPKs with no medical issues. Up to one year isn't unusual, just frustrating.

Definitely normal! I got pregnant our sixth cycle trying, but it can take up to year for some people who don't have any issues. And I was doing EVERYTHING - taking my temps, checking my CM, timing sex, etc. I had no idea why it took so long - it just does sometimes!

I second the suggesting of joining the POAS board. Those ladies are AWSOME with the support!

@Claire.Peonies: have you joined a POAS board yet? Those girls are great support! I didn't my BFP till cycle 15 of ttc after one early MC at cycle 12. It can take time. My cycles are usually 28 days as well & we followed the creighton method the month we got out BFP. Basicly we BD the moment there was fertile CM, didn't use opk's cause I knew I had been ovulating, &didn't pay attention to my BBT during that time (I was still temping to maintaine my chart).

Honestly it was super stressfull, I started relaxing the last couple months before my bfp. A few glasses of wine during the tww is just fine ;-) also anything else you can do to relax, massages, mani pedi, etc. GOOD LUCK!

@Claire.Peonies: hey... I have been in your shoes! It took us around 8 cycles to get pregnant (32 years old).... Right around 5/6 months I got really discouraged! You try to not get pregnant for a long time then when you want it, it doesn't happen right away!! I think the stress consumed me and hindered the process a bit. But who knows. The month I really redirected my energy to new things (new job) and started playing guitar (fun!) we got pregnant!

Good luck! HB is a great place for helping through the TTC process!

I turned 30 right before my 1st was born. My first was conceived on about cycle 3 and my second more like cycle 5. I will have just turned 33 when #2 arrives.

It can seem very very long when TTC, even when you know you don't have IF problems. The only method I used was tracking CM when TTC #2. I think I got confused on how it worked and when was the best time to BD. The month I really understood what to look for was the month we conceived.

Good luck and stay positive.

Edit: I hope no one takes my IF comment the wrong way. I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like to be facing IF problems. I think that anyone who has been through more than a few cycles of TTC with BFNs every time can become consumed and stressed by it.

@alivoo01 thank you so much for your suggestions and advice! I guess I never thought about it that way before but you're right, baby making was portrayed to me as simple and uncomplicated. It wasn't until we started ttc conceive that I realized how much of a science it really is. I need to just relax and stop thinking something is wrong and enjoy our time left as just the two of us! :)

It took us 8/9 cycles to get pregnant with a sticky baby. Stress was a huge factor for me now that I look back it. Growing up, baby making was portrayed as having unprotected sex and BAM! Preggo!! Who knew there was a science behind it. Any how, once I attempted to minimize stress, things were easier for me. For us, the hubby and I picked up bowling on a weekly basis and picked up other hobbies/activities that we haven't done in awhile or wanted to try out. It was great!

Oh my gosh, I know exactly how you feel! We are on cycle number five and I'm getting so frustrated! I really honestly didn't think it would take this long. You're right about it cosuming your life! I feel like I have baby on the brain all day every day, and to make it worse my BFF and I started ttc at the same time because we wanted to be pregnant together and she got pregnant on cycle #1! After reading reviews and such I decided to purchase some opk's and I'm going to use those during this next cycle. I'm trying to stay calm, relaxed, and optimistic...while still being excited and supportive for my friend...definitely a juggling act! Who knows maybe cycle number 6 will be the lucky one!?!? :)

Hello Bees.

I finally joined this website realizing that I didn't have a lot of female friend support during our journey of TTC.

I am a medical pediatric resident. A lot of my friends are not thinking about starting a family at this time. Work hours can be strenuous. Stress level varies depending upon the month. I will be 30 in December, so time is ticking...

I have been on OCP for 9+ yrs and my cycles have been ranging between 28 and 32 days in length. We are already headed to our 5th cycle of TTC.

I was sure that I was pregnant this week, hoping to tell my husband (Liam) on Father's Day. Unfortunately my period came today. Is 4 months of TTC normal? Any advice?
