Thanks so much for your insight, everyone. I think I will call my RE to set up a consult for a few months down the line. I'm trying not to be stressed or rushed about TTC this time around, but I'm now 35 and my luteal phase is still way too short. So, ugh. :meh:

@MrsKRB: I didn't get AF back until my guy was down to nursing once a day (when he was about 13 months). But I researched it like crazy and it seems like everyone is different (which is always the answer, isn't it!)

@agold: yes, just to sleep and once or twice in the middle of the night, depending on how she sleeps. I will probably be one of those women who doesn't get af back until full weaned.

Different scenario as we need to see an RE (same sex couple) but the only thing I would say is I really would try to figure out how long/if you'd be willing to try on your own without intervention and get an appointment booked now for that time so you have a bit of a 'deadline'

We had DS on our first IVF cycle after 7 IUI's were unsuccessful and had nothing frozen. I really forgot and/or mentally blocked how much waiting happens and by the time we got everything sorted with testing, donor sperm, cycle timing, etc. It started to make me antsy as I felt like time was ticking. We just started medicated IUI last month so I'm settled down about it now but I do wish we started the process about 6 months sooner, especially because there's now public funding for IVF in Canada (thus a long wait list if we get to that point)

We also had 3 failed IUIs and success with first IVF cycle for our first. I have PCOS. We decided to NTNP after I got my period (10m pp), and then we really tried (with OPKs) from when LO1 was 20mo. Our plan was Togo back to the RE for our frozen embryos when LO1 is 2.5, and we found out that I was pregnant two weeks before our first consultation. I'm still in shock.

But on the RE side of things, (and I think this is what you're asking), the process to begin the FET cycle seems pretty straightforward from my talk with the nurses. They do some blood work, check on the health of your uterus and time the transfer. Seems like it can all be done within a two-month period.

@YogiRunner: I'm in the exact same boat as you. I went the IVF route after ttc for a couple of years, 2 unsuccessful IUIs and unexplained IF. But I do not have any embryos left. I'm currently on my second postpartum cycle, and first TWW. I plan to try "naturally" on my own in a really relaxed way for maybe like a year. And when my girl turns 2 next summer, I'll thinking about going back to the RE. I will go straight to IVF, though. One round only. Probably not until the end of 2018 because of financial planning. If I had one frozen embryo, I would do a FET next summer after I had tried on my own for like 14 months or something to my satisfaction.

@MrsKRB: Are you nursing still?

We needed interventions with our first (IUI was successful) so when we were ready for our second I went right back to the RE (just a different office since I changed jobs). Because it had been almost 4 years we did have to repeat all of our testing but it wasn't too bad. Everything was done quickly.

My best friend made a plan to meet with her RE to discuss her options in January. Turns out she's due in January instead! She got pregnant completely naturally because she wasn't worried about preventing. I hope you have a similarly easy road.

@MrsKRB: Yeah, everyone is different, so you may have an easy go the 2nd time too. I also got very lucky the first round with my son (one round, 13 retrieved, 8 PGD tested and ONE normal, my now 3 year old). I naively thought we'd likely do it in one round again and Boy was I wrong. Tanked AMH, Poor response, nearly cancelled cycles, all abnormal when we did get a couple to test, etc, my RE strongly encouraged donor eggs after my 2nd round. I decided to do one more round and miraculously we ended up with 2 normals. 10.5 weeks Pregnant with one and another frozen. But that all took way more time and effort and emotion than last time. I was really surprised! 32 vs 35 made a huge difference.

We had 4 medicated cycles, 3 with IUI to get LO#1. I don't know what to do TTC#2 now... Give it a year, then RE or what?

I'm not really sure how to go about this either, we don't have any frozen embryos though so we will need to start over. I still haven't gotten my period back (14 months pp) but right now we just aren't using protection, I guess I'll start to track once I get my period and maybe around her 2nd birthday I'll call the RE to start an IVF cycle.

I'm a little different since I know I'll always need intervention (PGD due to a chromosome issue).
But when we were ready we went straight to my RE. We didn't have anything frozen from the first time so after 2 months of the initial set up and monitoring, we started our first round. It ended up taking almost a year and 3 rounds to get pregnant (which I know is nothing compared to many, but it was a lot longer than our first which I naively wasn't prepared for).
So, if it were me knowing what I know now, I would go to my RE as soon as I was considering TTC and ask for a consult. I would be drawn to just scheduling a transfer because if that didn't work I'd want to get started on additional treatments asap. It can take longer the 2nd time.

LO #1 was conceived after our first round of IVF (after three unsuccessful IUI attempts). No diagnosed issues besides a luteal phase that never goes above 9 days.

I only got my period back a few months ago, but we do have a frozen embryo left from my first IVF cycle, and I'm just really uncertain about how to approach TTC. Try on our own a few months? Reach out to my OB? My RE?

What did you do to conceive #2 when you needed intervention for #1?
