Ditto what all the ladies said previously. An app on your phone to keep track of cycle information (temps, symptoms, etc) would also be helpful. I use Kindara and Period Tracker. Kindara charts are better but I like Period Tracker for the symptoms and pictures (the spot for the daily picture is perfect for Wondfo strip pics). Good luck! :goodluck:

@Mrs. J: So I'm not crazy for wanting a beginning of the school year LO?! Yayy for another teacher TTC. I will def pick up that book because I am clueless--like I hear people talking about "temping" but don't know what patterns I am suppose to look for. I'm excited to learn about all of this because I feel like I should know!

@DesertDreams88: Thanks for all the info (and spelling out how to use the Wondfos!) I'm hoping the IUD doesn't mess me up too much but considering how abnormal I've always been, who knows!

Also: Like Anya said, if you get the Wondfos, you NEED the bathroom cups - they are the "dip only" kind.

I agree with @MRS. J's tips as well - temping was a clear indicator for me (same time, every morning at waking time, after at least 5 hours of sleep) and the book Taking Charge of your Fertility (TCOYF) was incredibly informational.

I agree with @anya says, Day 8 sounds like a good time to start, because the "average" day to ovulate is day 14 and OPKs predict it a couple of days in advance. However, some people ovulate earlier, and so you wouldn't want to miss it!

I'd also recommend saving your OPKs for at least the first cycle, so you can compare the lines and learn what a positive OPK *really* looks like. The Wondfo brand has worked really well for me, and the lines are pretty clear once you get used to reading them.

So basically, buy a pack of 20+ Wondfos, start using them on day 8, use them until you get two good solid lines ("positive"), and then I would keep using them until about 5 days after that, just to see them turn back to "negative." Start to BD more often when you see those two lines, and don't stop until the 2nd line starts to disappear ;)

They tell you when you are ovulating / fertile. Just coming off an IUD, I don't know how long it will take for your cycles to normalize.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Join us on the boards! We are ttc #2. I find temping is helpful too. It confirms ovulation actually happened! Also, I would read Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

Eta: opks tell you if you *might* be ovulating, but you can have an LH surge and no egg. Temping is the only way to confirm ovulation.

@Mrs. Taco: oh yeah you can pee on all the things! :silly: Also when you get your opks I suggest getting some of those teeny bathroom cups, makes it easier to just dip your tests instead of actually peeing on them.

@Anya: Thanks for the info! I'm def going to join the POAs ladies, it didn't occur to me that you POAs for both ovulation and pregnancy.

You can start them whenever you like, maybe day 8 of your cycle? When it turns positive you are going to ovulate in the next day or two, so get busy! I'd start with a cheap brand like wondfo so you can use a lot. And if you're unsure about when it's positive, just have sex every other day or at least every 3 days!

That's the spark notes version, but I recommend joining in on the POAS thread to chat with others who are going through the same thing!

Alright ladies, I'm about to sound quite ignorant when it comes to this topic so bear with me!

Our DD was a lovely surprise...I found out I was pregnant after almost 2 years of not having AF (pretty sure it was low body fat--I wasn't on BC)! After I had her, I got an IUD and therefore have still yet to have a regular cycle.

Well, last Thursday I got my IUD removed (yay active TTC) and got AF yesterday. I have zero idea what my cycles are like since I haven't had one in years. We want to try this cycle and the next but if it doesn't happen we will wait until late spring (I'm a teacher so I'm trying to time this well :silly: ). Because of this, I want to use OPKs (can you tell I've been reading---let me know if I'm using these terms right haha), but when do I start with them? How do I use them? What brand? What do they tell you? When do we have sex?

Gah, I'm so clueless. Thanks for any advice!
