@MsBAM: temp after your longest stretch of sleep. Some women's temp is effected by time of day more than amount of sleep and vice versa. You might have to experiment some to see which effects it more.

I think so, as long as it’s always at the same time. You can also temp in the morning if you’ve been sleeping for 3 consecutive hours

@Eebolleh: can I temp even if I have unbroken sleep? My LO usually gets up for a few min around 3-330am. Can I just remove temp as soon as I’m up at that time? My period came back a few months after LO was born

I didn’t get my period back until my baby was 14 months old. By then she was nursing twice a day for 2 minutes. She was getting about 1-2oz from the breast per day.

Are you temping? I really like that just to confirm ovulation.

Now i didn't nurse due to meds I have to take but my friend did and got pregnant easily but her supply dipped a ton. Her period came back regularly despite breastfeeding. But I know some ladies who it did effect ovulation/ progesterone stuff. This lady had to stop and wean but is now 15 weeks pregnant. I think every lady is different.

@bees_knees: I believe it was about two weeks or less after the lh surge that I got my period

@bhbee: I started AF probably a few months after LO was born so I’ve had my cycle for a while

@jhd: good to know second takes a while, I just hope it has nothing to do with me nursing!

Sadly I think there is no real answer to this since some people are very affected by nursing and some are not. Just because you’re ovulating doesn’t mean your cycles are conducive to conception (and I’ve also read of people on here who thought they had early losses possibly related to still nursing ... like your body’s just not fully on board). Like mentioned above it’s also not that uncommon for the second to take longer, we had a longer wait each time. If you’re worried about getting pregnant ASAP then yes I would work on weaning, in case it makes a difference. If nursing is a bigger priority and you can be flexible on timing then maybe wait and see.

I also agree that night nursing makes a big difference. My first STTN at 10w and AF showed up when she started solids. My second STTN at 13m and no AF until right around his bday. But it’s still kind of mysterious because this baby STTN around 7m and now she’s almost 10m and no AF. Maybe age difference, maybe chance, who knows.

I’ve gotten (and stayed) pregnant 3 times while nursing. I got pregnant as soon as my cycle returned, BUT my cycle didn’t return until I night weaned.

How many days after the LH surge did you get a period? A lot of women who are breastfeeding have a shortened luteal phase. I’d work on cutting out your middle of the night sessions first if you plan on cutting back on breastfeeding! GL!

@MsBAM: I wasn’t able to nurse but we also conceived LO1 quickly. I was expecting LO2 to also happen quickly but it took a while! I hope it happens soon for you! :goodluck:

Hi all,

So LO number 1 was conceived very quickly. We’ve been TTC for number 2 for the last five months. However, I do still nurse my two year old and I’m starting to wonder if it’s having an impact on getting pregnant. My doctor said that that could definitely be a factor, as she said BF’ing is 75% effective at avoiding pregnancy. Anyone have any idea on this? Im thinking about trying to decrease the number of nursing sessions. I work full time so during the week during the day he doesn’t nurse. He still nurses back to sleep at night, before nap time and bedtime. I used an ovulation predictor kit three months ago and it told me I had the Lh surge and also when I was ovulating. So does that mean I must still be ovulating? Is it really necessary to try and wean?
