We both travel. I travel every Mon-Tues of every single week. DH travels one week on, one week off. We've had 2 months where we completely missed fertile week due to one of us being gone. You just hope for positives when you're both in town! We're still ttc #1 though, so it hasn't been rainbows and sunshine just yet! ((hugs))

@Mrs.KMM: hubby is a consultant too, with the exact same schedule. It took us a while, and was frustrating, but it eventually worked. We found that our chances seemed to alternate each month -- one month we'd have good odds, and the next would pretty much be no chance of it working due to timing. Noticing this pattern helped a bit with our expectations in the off months, though it was still an emotional roller coaster.

Good luck!

@NorCalWayfarer: I've been temping since before we even started TTC just because I felt it would help me to stress less if I could know the months we are able to have good timing versus not.

I've been thinking about trying OPKs this month to try to take advantage of the one chance we'll probably have to have a cycle where he isn't travelling. Any tips or recommendations?

Congrats on your LO and happy to hear it didn't take you too long working with the same schedule we've got!

@PrincessBaby: congrats momma! You were a huge inspiration to me when we were TTC since my DH also traveled Monday-Thursday. Happy to hear you are expecting #2!

@Mrs.KMM: DH had the same schedule when we were TTC (he's since gone in-house). We didn't do anything special and luckily the timing actually worked out. We got pregnant on cycle 2 but had a chemical pregnancy but got pregnant again on my 6th cycle. I'm sitting here nursing an almost 2 month old :-) We had discussed me taking a couple days off and flying to meet him when I was ovulating but luckily we never had to do that. I would recommend reading TCOYF, temping and using OPK. Oh and joining the POAS boards of course :-)

Good luck!

@PrincessBaby: Man - 3 weeks on/3 weeks off is a way tougher schedule to work with than my Mon-Thurs away. Glad to hear the plenty of people are able to successfully TTC while dealing with un-ideal schedules. Didn't realize that geographical infertility is actually a diagnosis!

@Mrs.KMM: I am the queen of TTC with a traveling spouse, although I am currently pregnant with #2. My husband works offshore, and is gone/home on a 3 weeks on/off schedule. When we were ttc my daughter, I almost went mad. It literally drove me insane to always be worried about his schedule and my eggs:) Even with his erratic schedule, we conceived my daughter in about 9 months, before I had to be committed to an insane asylum from the stress of feeling like it was never going to happen.

With #2, I knew the deal - it would be a timing game - and I just rolled with it. Not to mention that I work full time and have a 21 month old that I'm solo parenting for 3 weeks at a time, so I didn't have the energy to devote to obsessing about it. Our insurance actually covers multiple interventions, and we were getting to the point of looking at our options because we were recently diagnosed with "Geographical Infertility" (lol- it's a real diagnosis!) by the RE that I saw just to get established with. We started NTNP in December of last year. But I only had a couple of cycles where we were able to give it a legit shot because he was home. Most of the time, my husband left 4 or 5 days before I ovulated, and was gone for 3 weeks, so that was always a no-go. When I mapped out his schedule for the rest of the year, August was the last month he would be home when I ovulated. So I used the CBE smileys for the first time since we were ttc #1, and we were so blessed to get pregnant! If we wouldn't have, we were very seriously going to look at options with the RE, simply because he would never be here at the right time, and I am 34 so I'm no spring chicken and we'd like to get the show on the road:)

So I guess all that is to say that even with geographic infertility, we still have one sweet girl and one on the way, and it didn't end up taking forever with either:)

Good luck!

My DH takes occasional trips for work that can last several weeks. I am always on edge that he is going to get sent away during my FW, and we'll have to miss a month. I go a little crazy over it, but I think TTC drives us all a little crazy. This month he is away until the day or two before I O. I am hoping that this month is it, because we may only get one shot.

Yeah. We both did field work with ZERO schedule when we were TTC. I was charting too, and drove across the province (8 hours when home was a mere 5 hours away) to see him where he was working, stayed the night and went home in the morning. It worked though ;). I know my girl was conceived in the (ever so skeezy) Tropical Inn in Lloydminster (sorry, maybe TMI). I picked the 310-GIRLS cards off my truck in the morning. Welcome to the oil patch!

It's not quite as tricky as a spouse traveling, but my DH works "restaurant hours" (he'll get home as late as 3-5 a.m. some nights).

I'm curious if there is anyone else in a similar situation to me.

My DH is a consultant and he travels every Monday - Thursday for work. We're just starting our 4th cycle of TTC but as you can imagine, his travel doesn't always allow us to have the best timing (or do lots of BDing!). If his window at home doesn't coincide with our window for that cycle then we don't get much of a shot.

I starting charting my temps as soon as I got off of BC and have continued now that we are trying. I figure it will help me to stress less if I know if we completely missed our window due to his travel so I don't spend the TWW wondering if this could be the month (so far, we've been lucky enough to not completely miss it).

DH just finished his current project and will be working from home for a few weeks before the next project starts up so it looks like we will get to have one "normal" month of TTC.

Anyone else TTC while dealing with something that doesn't make timing the easiest?
