So does anyone know when do you draw the line between a solid cardio workout and an extreme workout? I have been doing P90x and getting into great pre- baby shape. Im ttc and concerned that I may be "overdoing it" and potentially doing harm to my reproductive system because the workouts are hard. Does any one know and is it best to take it easy on cardio when ttc? The thing that keeps me believing Im fine is the new info that Kerri walsh was pregnant while playing volleyball at the olympics. So if shes fine, wouldnt we all be okay?

@MrsFarmer: That's awesome! I've been doing really well with the ab stuff and now that AF is here I can do more and not have to worry about it for the next 3ish weeks! I need to get cardio back into my routine. I've been lazy :/

Thanks for asking me to join this thread, Mrs.VW! I'm so ready to concentrate on non-TTC stuff (and getting in shape to be pg is an awesome benefit)!

Inspired by redsmarties, I've taken up the Couch to 5K program after a running hiatus of about 2 years. I downloaded the free NHS podcast on my iPhone and it's awesome! I am LOVING getting back into running and that podcast is super motivating. One of the songs in the warm up has "It's the greatest day" in the lyrics and it just pumps me up and makes me happy. :)

I did take yesterday off because it was ugly (ugly=cold and windy) but I will be out there today as soon as I get home from work. I'm trying to get out there every other day.

@spaniellove: Good job! I'm still recovering from late nights during our trip this last weekend and just couldn't get up at 5 am this morning! :) I'm planning on it tomorrow! I have this dvd and I LOVE it - 4 different one mile walks, some with weights. It's perfect for any stage of my cycle :)

Day 1: 100 standing oblique crunches with weights - CHECK! :) I'm thinking tonight I'll do some planks and that should be great for day one. Since I'm somewhere in my TWW (probably towards the end) I'll stick with exercises other than traditional crunches. Just til AF is here - then it's on! :)

This thread is so timely for me! I've just started trying to get back on a routine of walking every morning with my dog, which I know hardly sounds like any kind of workout. But my BMI is low, and I've found that if I do anything more vigorous than that I stop getting my period. So my goal is just to get on a routine that I can keep up through IVF when I'm feeling all sorts of nasty and bloated. Hearing the vet tell us this morning that the dog is starting to put on weight was motivation enough to keep walking her! (You should have heard her howling as he said she was middle-aged and putting on weight!)

I'm in! I was doing Couch to 5K all summer, and then with our crazy move, I've fallen off the wagon.
Thank goodness my parents have a home gym, so my goal will be to do some form of cardio (running, biking or elliptical) every day for the month of October.
Once my spare tire stops getting in the way, I'll switch to ab exercises, ha ha.
Love the accountability of this group!

@alie: I was the same way. When TTC started to get $$$ and we had more and more expenses I decided to get rid of the gym and do it at home. Luckily my library has a TON of workout dvds and I have some good ones I enjoy. It's just a matter of getting them out and doing them :)

I will totally join in on this! My gym membership has not been used in QUITE a while. I'm not good at working out at home - too many distractions.

And there is zero chance of me 'overdoing it', too - I'm sure some exercise can only help my cause, not hurt it.

As far as I could tell, nothing was off limits for exercising while TTC. in fact, vigorous exercise was even shown to enhance fertilization for IVF patients in one study, so I had a hard time believing that you could overdo it, unless you had exercised to the point of a super low body fat and possible loss of menses. Crunches aren't really the best thing for you, though. Planks are excellent, however. Weight bearing exercises are also great--they'll help increase your bone density and muscle mass, so that once you do get pregnant, the extra 30 pounds doesn't feel so heavy. Changing how you work out is more of an issue once you become pregnant. And even then, it's highly dependent on what you were doing before.

I've been having the same issues. I wanted to get into the best shape possible before TTC so I'd be stronger getting through a pregnancy. Hasn't happened yet. So I think doing some ab work every day for 2 weeks is a good start! I'm going to add in some shoulder/back exercises, since that's my real weak point and I need to do physical therapy exercises. Throwing my back out now sucks, but at least I can take heavy pain killers. Gotta get strong enough that I don't do it when I have extra weight throwing me off!

Hey girls! I have been having such a hard time working out lately. I feel so sporadic with it lately and I thought maybe some motivation would help me stay on track. I thought maybe some of you might want to join me too. I feel like working out is a whole new scenerio when you are TTC. Never before did I wonder, Am I doing too much? Should I not be doing X, Y, Z moves? And not too mention the emotional ups and downs of TTC. Any way, I thought that I would set little 2 week goals and see if that helps me stick to it :)

Anyone with me?

My first goal - starting tomorrow - is to do some form of Ab workout every day for 14 days. It can be anything from 100 crunches to an ab dvd, whatever, as long as it's ab work. One of my goals when I started TTC was to work on my abs and have them ready for labor and delivery by the time I was PG. That has NOT happened :) So, here's to fulfilling that goal.

I hope someone joins me so we can encourage each other :)
