@Mrs. Lion: I'm a big proponent of taking control of your own medical journey. No one, including my former OBGYN, was going to care as much about the outcome and effects on my body but me. An RE is an OBGYN who has gone through further schooling to become a baby making specialist.

@Shutterbug: They'll send me out for the HSG (and DH for the SA) but get all the results in house to discuss with me. She went over my cycle length, when I O, when we BD, all sorts of things. From the sounds of it, we're doing everything right so far!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Absolutely! To be honest, though, to me seeing an OB WAS seeing a specialist. I had always seen my pcp for everything before we had issues TTC. And she is my favorite doctor I have ever had in my life, so I didn't really have any reason to look elsewhere (especially since the Clomid worked). I had no idea there was so much more to it. I wasn't ovulating. The Clomid helped me to ovulate. I thought that was the end of the story. I knew nothing about boards like this at the time, so I was really uninformed (apparently I still am!)

@Mrs. Lion: bloodwork and ultrasound to confirm a surge and detect how many follicles are present.

My RE cancels TI/IUI cycles if you have 3+ Follicles.

I found it helpful because:
- the first time I took clomid I didn't ovulate
- the third time I took clomid I developed symptoms of OHSS; I needed an ovidrel shot that cycle
- you can only take clomid for 6 lifetime cycles so I wanted it to count.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: @swedishfish: I don't want to hijack this thread....but what do you mean when you say monitoring while on Clomid? I saw an OB and used Clomid last time, but we didn't do IUI. I believe I only went in for bloodwork once or twice per cycle?

It went better than I could've expected!! My doctor didn't question us once - no you're young or you have time comments which I was afraid of for some reason. She's completely proactive and ordered all the tests! She took some sample from me while I was there - to get acidity or something? Can't remember. I'm going back tomorrow for CD2/3 blood work for a hormonal profile and AMH and to do a baseline sonogram. I go back around CD25 (5dpo for me) for progesterone check. And schedule a HSG in there, SA for DH and physicals with blood work for both of us! Phew! I think I covered it all! Thank you everyone so much for all the advice <3

@LindsayInNY: I agree with a lot of what the previous posters said about going to an RE over an OB at this point. I went through NYU's fertility center and they were A.Mazing. I loved my doctor too...he was so sweet. I was worried about being there when I was young and healthy, and I asked him if I should come back later, and he told me that as a parent, not to worry because he wanted to help me spend as much extra time with my child as I could.

@Lindsayinny I'll echo what everyone has said and tell you to go ahead and move to an RE. I did unmonitored Femara (like Clomid) with an OB for four months and that didn't work for us. I was referred to an RE in September and the first few months were consultation and testing (then the holidays messed things up) so we're just now starting treatment. Sticking with the OB for those few months made an already long process longer. Femara or Clomid works for some, but your RE can prescribe that an monitor you closer and adjust your medication instead of having you blindly taking it and hoping you get pregnant. Best of luck tonight!

@LindsayInNY: Do you have lab corp? That's where I got my blood work done. You can get the testing done with OB and send results to your RE. Definitely try and get in with RE ASAP so they can do HSG (CD 9 - 12). I wanted to get all the testing done fast so we could move on to getting pregnant.

@littlek: I last took progesterone Monday night and wasn't expecting AF to arrive so soon. Today is CD1 so I don't know if they could even get me in that soon for CD3 blood work... That's part of why I'm thinking a RE might be better?

@LindsayInNY: My guess is they will suggest CD3 and CD21 testing. That was our first step. They may also suggest HSG and SA. Our OB did not suggest HSG and SA because he thought we had gotten pregnant before so there was no issue there. Our RE is having us do both though and I feel like that is a better response.

Thankfully, coverage is pretty good. Seems like most appointments are just specialist co-pays. She went over what procedures are covered, what counts toward the lifetime max, etc.
