I had migraines for a week at around week 15. My doctor said to take extra strength Tylenol and drink 1/2 a cup of regular coffee.

I generally avoid/limit caffeine, but after a migraine for 3 days, I went for it.

They also suggested the usual: cold washcloth on my neck/forehead, napping, lying in a dark and quiet room, and water.

@ladyfingers: That's right-- I think it is Fiorecet (sp?). Is it @artbee who gets migraines and takes that? It's basically really strong Tylenol, I think, prescription only.

I continued to take whatever I was used to while TTC, but during pregnancy, Tylenol is the only "safe" medicine my doctor gave me. I believe Benadryl is also OK, and/or Unisom and they both helped my migraines that I got before pregnancy. Double check, though. Strangely, I stopped getting regular headaches and migraines in pregnancy. I think they had been related to the antidepressants I also stopped taking once I got my BFP!

ETA there may be an OK prescribed migraine med to take while pregnant, your doctor will be able to tell you.

Oh, and I wasn't super duper careful about meds during the TWW, especially early in it. But since BFP, I am. I did take Tylenol once for a migraine and it actually worked, which completely surprised me.

Have you tried doing an ice pack on the back of your neck? It usually at least takes the edge off for me, especially since I get a lot of tension there.

Other than that, I'm hoping someone has useful info, since I've gotten a couple of really bad headaches recently and don't want to take much in the way of drugs. It could be that you are getting rebound headaches, though, so maybe after your body adjusts it will get better.

@tororojo: Maybe I'll try Tylenol and eating before a dose of Excedrin...I tend to go most of the day without eating so that can do it.

Ugh, I don't have an answer for you but I want to follow this thread! I dread being in the TWW or pregnant with a migraine. My only real relief is Aleve, an NSAID. I think I took it once during the TWW anyway, since I was in such pain.

All my doctor okayed for headaches was Tylenol. :( Sorry you're dealing with this! The only other things I can think of are soda/caffeine, taking a nap, cool washcloth or sometimes eating. I've never had a migraine, though.

What did you all realistically take when you were TTC or pregnant and had a bad headache? My migraines are slightly better but I still get headaches a few times a week, so in an effort to avoid caffeine I've been trying to wean myself off Excedrin Tension Headache. Especially since I don't want to be on so much caffeine if/when we do IVF! Sometimes I think the caffeine might be causing rebound headaches.

Is there anything stronger than Tylenol but not an NSAID and not containing caffeine that works and is safe during this time?
