I had my tubes removed during my last CS, a year ago.
Recovery felt the same as my first CS.
My period was wonky for part of the first year - maybe 6 months? I was getting it every 2-3 weeks instead of every 4. I would say in the last 4-5 months it finally feels very normal and I’m like clockwork again.
The length is the same - 5 days exactly.
Maybe it’s a little heavier for the first 2 days than it was before. But it’s nothing so bad that it’s alarming or worrisome.
I actually get way less cramps now than I did before. My periods before this last pregnancy, I definitely needed some ibuprofen for the first couple of days and maybe even before. Now I feel nothing or it’s so minimal that I don’t need anything for it.

@LadyDi: ha totally! That’s the one thing I’m really going to hate about not being pregnant/breastfeeding!

@lioneyes: @Mamatimes3: @QBbride: Thanks! I am definitely leaning towards full removal if they can, but I guess that's limited by what happens during the surgery. My dr did say if my periods were bad that I could also get an IUD, but I would really just prefer to be done with birth control. I think after pretty much four straight years of either being pregnant or breastfeeding that going back to regular monthly periods is going to suck.

Here they always recommend a full removal due to the decreased risk of cancer, the studies are pretty in favour of full removal! At my hospital I think that’s pretty much the only option now!! I think recovery is slightly more painful since they’re digging around a bit more but I don’t think it’s extreme. Don’t know anything about the periods after though!

I had my tubes tied (not full removal) during my 3rd c section. Recovery did feel slightly different like I ached a bit more internally. I can’t speak to the periods because I take birth control pills to help alleviate acne and other pms symptoms.

I had a tubal during my RCS, 5 months ago. They cut the tube but did not remove it. I think the recovery this time was harder than with my first C, but that is probably because they are cutting through scar tissue, not because of the tubal. As for my period, it's bad. BUT- I do not think it's worse than it was for the first few months after my first C. I guess I have to wait and see to see if it gets better (like it did last time after about 8-10 months) or if it stays like this.

As far as cutting vs. removing, my doctor didn't offer me the option of removal during a CS, but I would have taken it if she had as I heard that could help preventatively with ovarian cancer.

If you had a tubal ligation during a c section, how do you think it affected your overall recovery? Did you have a ligation or full tube removal? What were your periods like after?

I am going to have a tubal during my next c section in June. This will be my third section and my doctor has said that I could have the full tube removed, depending on how things are going with the surgery, where the tube is located in relation to the uterus, etc. I am a little concerned about how it's going to affect recovery. She also said my periods should be the same, but I have heard anecdotally that they are worse after a tubal. Just wondering what others' experiences were like.
