@macintosh: I would put the waist band even higher, actually! For back carries in my Tula I put the waist band right under my boobs. I got that tip from Tula Love and it works really well.

@junebugsmama: shoot now I'm confused! I'll have to try that again. The last thing I need is to make my back and shoulders hurt, but it sure is nice to be hands free again.

@macintosh: you have to put it on your hips to take the weight off your shoulders. Natural waist works for front carry but for back carries, you need to lower it. This is true with soft structured carriers, and especially for the big babies! I feel it so bad in my shoulders if I try to raise the band.

@macintosh: Not as hard as you'd think. If you don't have help, it's easiest if you can stand the carrier on a step or chair or bench or table so that you don't have to just bend down and dead lift it, but it goes on like a backpack and you put the kid in first. With the ergo I feel like I'm slinging DD over my back and fumbling with the carrier while I awkwardly bend over and hold her on with one hand.

@macintosh: would you consider a carrier with a frame? We have an Osprey Poco Premium for hiking, but DH wears it around town when he's running errands with one of the girls. It distributes the weight really well and is very cool for both wearer and rider. This won't work for sticking under a stroller or in a handbag like a soft carrier, though!

I tried the back carry again today in the Ergo 360. I put the waistband much higher, around my natural waist. LO seemed comfortable, but it sure wasn't comfortable on my shoulders. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if he's just too big for the carrier.

i actually think the coast is awesome and i definitely noticed the heat difference. I took the coast on a trip to the canary islands where we did alot of hiking and beaching and i found that i was significantly less sweaty.

that being said, i dont think you NEED it. unless you are overheating regularly in your currently carrier and/or have some money to spare. But it is nice! I have the plain gray one because Im boring haha.

Check out a carrier brand called Connecta too. They sell a solar version that's made out of swim trunk fabric essentially. Not as much padding as the Tula... I'm waiting for my pre-order to ship so I can finally use/try it!

DD sweats a lot when she naps so it's been kinda hot in my Tula WC.
