I'm still pregnant so I don't have any real advice for losing the Post-baby jiggle. However, prior to getting pregnant, I'd always had a big ol jiggly belly. I changed my diet to a whole food plant-based diet (with the occasional meat and wine splurge on the weekends) and my tummy flattened up quick!! Good luck!

ETA: The pay is crap, but we can make a-hole comments together while you tell me to stop stuffing my face and get my azz in gear, which should be a good time for all. :silly:

I think beer has a place in a diet....one in which you make up for it elsewhere, but every day is a lot (that's about 1,000 calories/week in empty booze). I don't give up wine (i don't believe a few glasses/week is standing in my way) but i have to make sure it doesn't turn into a second or third glass plus snacks. THAT is *my* downfall.

@lizzywiz: :happy: Be afraid! but you will feel great after.
Also try cutting back on the beer, maybe every other night. I was only drinking on the weekends, and now I try and just have 1-2 one night a week.

@lizzywiz: It all really depends on the individual, BUT, if you really don't want to lose the beer, at the very least, I would cut out all processed carbs, and limit your carbs to small amounts of whole grains, and veggies and fruits (and pick your fruits carefully--at least for a short while), and see how your body responds . . . The only way to know how alcohol impacts your body is to do without for a set period of time, and then decide if the sacrifice it worth it.

ok. ok. fine. I am going to do a little more structured dieting and exercise. Lame. Just downloaded the Lose It! app. sigh.

Running is my favorite, so I guess I have to increase my miles or speed. And I am a fan of planks, so I will add that in, too.

@Mamaof2: @blackbird: @MsLipGloss: @catlady:

was giving up alcohol pivotal? I know it is calories in and calories out, but I have read before that alcohol= belly fat....any experience on this one?

(I ask because I enjoy having a beer with my SO every night and would like to know if other 35+ ers managed to keep some booze and still trim down)

@lizzywiz: For starters, cut the processed crap and engage your core as often as you can remember (even during normal activities), especially during any kind of workout (including walking!). After that, it becomes a mission to burn the excess body fat so that what muscle you do have will be visible (like @Blackbird: said). Nothing makes my belly--or my body--look better than a clean diet. Nothing.

@lizzywiz: For me, diet absolutely trumps working out in terms of weight loss.

In terms of toning, I think the key is finding a workout that you love so you will stick with it. I love bar method, personally. Every time I try something like p90x or 30 day shred, I can't seem to commit. But other people love those and get great results, so it's all about finding what you enjoy!

@lizzywiz, I know, lol!

You need to lose fat to minimize post baby belly. Strenghtening the muscles will help shape them and "tone" them, but it's not going to do jack for minimizing the belly. It can give the appearance of a better midsection by adding definition and tighten the muscles...but you can have the strongest abs in the world and it means nothing if you have the post baby belly hiding it.

"Toning" is just another word for showing muscle off. You can't be "tone" without losing some fat to actually reveal said muscles :)

When I used to go to my trainer, he said that weight loss is 80% what you eat. The rest is just toning what you have. Diet starts on Tuesday??? Ugh. . .

Agree with @blackbird: I am 38 and complained to my dr about gaining weight - she said as you get older mist people have to watch their diet AND exercise - boo!!!!

I have been doing bar method for 3 months now and barely see results- why? Because my diet is crap! I am still in the mindset of where I use to be which was "as long as I work out I can eat what I want" which isnt true anymore!

So yes, you need to watch calories and exercise if you truly want results!

@Mrs. Bee: brings up a good point and now I am curious:

Ladies, did you find muscle toning OR weight-loss to be most effective with minimizing post baby belly?

(obviously both in conjugation would work best, but if you had to choose...)

I am 35+ and 2 years post postpartum. I have been fat and I have been skinny and in my 30's I finally became 'healthy'. I am medium sized (US size 6-8), run and do yoga a couple of times a week. I still have plenty of jiggly spots but for the most part I don't care at all. I eat what I want, and don't exercise everyday, which explains the jiggly spots, and I am perfectly satisfied with this deal....except....

My post baby belly is several inches bigger than pre-pregnancy and none of my clothes fit. Everything else is the same size-ish it has been, but my belly is larger and jigglier. It doesn't bother me too much, although seeing its shadow bob along with me when I run is humbling, lol. But I really don't want to buy all new pants and shirts if possible. I would rather exercise than shop, any day! And now 2 years post, I am finally giving up on the idea that it which just magically 'snap' back. :silly:

Keeping in mind I am not trying to get a six pack or start an unsustainable regime, what worked for you, bees?
