She gets more amped up when we stop the iPad so I'm less inclined to give her that. It's easier to "say goodbye"
To her show on the tv because it doesn't come with us whereas the iPad can go in her room/car, etc.

I'm fairly lax compared to a lot of bees when it comes to screentime. My toddler gets 3 to 4 hours a day usually (not consecutively). She only gets tablet time when I know she napped in the car but needs rest time. She gets to lay in her bed and watch a show and/or play a game.I haven't noticed a difference in behaviour but I don't like how easy it is to "remove" yourself from the family when using a tablet versus watch TV in a communal area.

@looch: We have that same problem! My two and a half year old could spend all day watching those silly YouTube videos. I think Ryan is his idol.

Two ipads is a really good idea...@looch: yeah, we deleted both YouTube and YouTube kids from the ipad, he was zoning out watching dumb videos of kids playing with toys and surprise eggs so we just got rid of them.... we still have Netflix & Amazon Prime on the iPad though so he can get to his fave movies & TV shows which is why I'd like the separate iPad!

Oh, how smart of you to have a separate ipads...i might actually try that. The problem for us is You Tube, not even regular TV any longer.

There are pros & cons for us. I think the mindlessness of TV affects LO's behavior more than the iPad. Like you we only have educational games on the iPad and we also don't use it regularly - it is more of a treat. But she does beg for more games, more games with the iPad and it becomes a thing for the rest of the day, versus usually with the TV she is fine turning it off after the show ends.

When our kids watch a lot of TV, their behavior becomes truly awful! So we work hard to limit the amount.

If they spend a lot of time using the iPad though, then their behavior doesn't change nearly as much. So we're much more inclined to give them some iPad screentime, versus TV screentime. Their iPads only have educational apps on them though, so they usually lose interest after a while. We have a separate iPad with games on it which they can use on the weekends, and they live for that!

Does screentime impact your kids' behavior? If so, which causes the biggest problems: TV or phones/tablets?
