And as a follow-up, I like the look of the first one best and it looks a little more sturdy

FYI I have a version of the Hemnes (I think it's probably the 3rd one you posted but mine is grey) in a guest bedroom. I've owned it for 6 years now and it's really rickety. Even anchored to the wall I won't let me daughter play in that room because I'm worried it's just going to fall apart one day. It won't be coming with us to our next house.

It's possible we messed up when we put it together but we have assembled so much furniture with no other problems and it was a real struggle trying to get the pieces to fit together well in the first place. Hopefully they've improved the item since 2010 - just wanted to warn you about ours!

I like the Hemnes style flanking the TV, but that first cabinet looks more like furniture and less like IKEA to me.

@Anagram: I like the second option the best, but are you storing any toys in there or kids books? If so, I would go for the drawers.

SO now we're thinking either two of these, on either side.....

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60303481/

or two of these:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50329622/#/70227118

or these: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70213593/#/50213589

Right now we have this giant blank space to the right of our tv. We were just going to move one shelf over to the other side but now we are thinking new shelves because our current ones were someone else's trash and they are rickety.

@Anagram: I have the EXACT same setup as Nana87 except my TV stand is the larger 3-section one (our TV is too big for the small one) and we have the longer 3-section connector at the top. The picture is buried in my iPhone somewhere, so I'll try to get one at home.

@avivoca: @yin: Can I see a pic? I am looking at the Hemnes. Considering the type with either the doors or the drawers on the bottom half so we can have books above and junk (like electronic cords, small toys, etc) hidden below).

We have two leaning ladder style book cases from Crate and Barrel, on either side of the wall mounted tv. They don't provide a ton of storage though, especially since we had to remove the bottom shelf when baby proofing.

We also have the Hemnes setup from Ikea. It fills out our family wall nicely, and I love the extra shelving space.

We have open shelving (free standing wooden bookcases) around the TV. If I were to do it all over again, I would have gone with a closet system with doors. I hate all that visual noise, the shelves are a mix of books and toys right now.

We have a bunch of Ikea pieces from the Hemnes line configured together to make what looks like a built in. At our old apt we used to have a bunch of Besta pieces; pics of both set ups attached! there are 2 pics of the Hemnes set up (I'm out of town so can't snap a better one for ya)-- one shows it almost all set up except without the top connecting shelf, but you can see that in the one with me and lo in front of it (showing her the decorations for her first bday party, heh). I think the Hemnes looks nicer than the Besta, and it's also much smaller

ETA first pic is the besta, bottom two hemnes

What do you have on your tv wall if you don't have built ins?

We're thinking of making some changes and we need bookcases/storage, but I'm not seeing a lot of inspiration pics for this that aren't built ins or aren't one huge piece that takes up a whole wall.

What do you have on your tv wall? Pics please!!
