We have a spare twin and a queen guest bed. Our plan is to give DS the twin. A queen would take up so much space in his room and DH and I are both big and tall and had twin beds through college. DH got a queen when he got his first apartment after college and I had a full size bed until I was 28!

Good points on being able to lay with him in a bigger bed. We actually already have a twin daybed in DS2's room since it matched his furniture. So he'll get that when he graduates to a bigger bed. I still think it's big enough to lay in with both boys right now to read but no, I couldn't sleep in it with them. I even crawl into the toddler bed right now and I"m not exactly tiny. But yes, I know the boys will only grow bigger. His room could probably handle a full and while he doesn't spend a lot of time in his room now, I imagine he will as he gets older and wants more privacy. We have a guest room so I wouldn't consider his bed to be used by a couple. Mainly b/c I think a full bed is waaaaaaay too small for 2 people.

It'll probably all come down to cost in the end. :) Thanks for your thoughts!

We have a full in my son's room and a full in the guest room. My son's room could accommodate a queen, though, where the guest room couldn't.

We did a full so that we had the flexibility of adult guests staying in her room (or eventually using her bed as a guest bed...) if necessary. But we have also had big enough rooms to fit that size, plus didn't really put that many toys in her room.

@My Only Sunshine: true- I love being able to lay down in bed with her, either for stories at night or to sleep when she is sick or won't sleep for whatever reason.

I think both are fine and would base it on how much space you have to spare. I had a twin until I was about 10, and then had a full until I graduated HS. Then I was back in a twin for most of college since I lived in the dorms.

My LO has a queen. I wanted it to be her bed for a long time. But I also bought a more "adult" style.... I legit would put her bed in my bedroom.

Our baby boy inherited our girl's crib and we will eventually convert it to a full bed for him.

I think I was around middle school when my parents upgraded me from a twin to a queen. I don't think a twin is comfortable in the long term.

Twin - it's the only bed that will fit comfortably in her room. :silly:

@MUI831: My DD has a full and we really love it. We can lay in there with her to sing songs when we tuck her in.

And if she's sick, one of us can go sleep in her room with her instead of her coming in our bed. (I know some people don't do this though so it may not be as much of a consideration...)

How big is his room? My LO has a queen at the moment, though we may downsize to a full at some point and put the queen back as a guest bed. She's a girl and I expect she would share the bed for future sleepovers- that's what I did for sleepovers at friends with big beds. I had a twin growing up and thought that was fine. We did sleeping bags on the floor for sleep overs. So I think both are fine depending how big the room is.

I know this is a total first world question to ask but I'm going to anyways. .. .:)

DS1 will be 4 in November and we told him that we would be getting him a new bed for his birthday. He's currently in the toddler bed that his crib turned into. DH and I keep going back and forth about whether to get him a twin bed or a full size.

DH says full b/c he had a bigger bed growing up and he'll have this bed for a long time. Plus, DS's crib can turn into a full if we buy the rails. He feels like for any future sleepovers, they will all want to sleep in the basement. Keep in mind that our basement is only partially finished and sort of scary at the moment.

I say a twin is sufficient as I ultimately would like it to be like a day bed where it can be pushed against the wall so it doesn't take up too much space in his room. Plus we can get a trundle bed for future cousin sleepovers when my BIL and SIL stay with us. There's also no reason why he couldn't have a twin bed for a long time either. I grew up with a twin daybed and it was just fine.

I know there really is no right or wrong answer here but does anyone else feel strongly either way?
