I started my pregnancy in the normal weight range and my doctor recommended about 35-40 pounds for me. I am about 20.5 weeks along and have gained about 20 lbs. I'm hoping to average about 1 pound per week.

My doc said 35 was 'necessary' and 50/60 lbs was my 'not to exceed'. I gained right about 50, and was induced in my 39th week with 12 lbs of baby and huge placentas (according to my OB).

I read Dr Luke's book too, and my take away was that as long as I was eating relatively healthy and exercising/walking regularly, the weight would do what it needed. I had no swelling, high bp, gest diabetes, and most people were surprised I was carrying twins. So for me, 50 was what my body needed, for others, 35 is great, and less to lose :)

It was funny though, that when I was most active and eating super healthy and portion controlled is when I gained weight like gangbusters in my late 2nd and early 3rd tri.

I was willing to put on some extra poundage for peace of mind that I was doing what I could to make my babes as big as possible. If I had tried to really limit my gain and my babies were super small, I would have had guilt issues...but that's just me :)

My Dr. didnt recommend anything in particular, but I gained close to 50 pounds... Almost half my weight lol! I let loose and indulged... Since blood pressure, glucose, and swelling were non-issues for me, I just ate anything and everything I wanted to guilt free. It was divine!

I gained 90 during my twin pregnancy. I was trying so hard not to but it just kept packing on. A lot of it was water weight. I lost 50 pounds in the first two weeks after delivery. I was retaining water like crazy so my weight shot up in the last month. It was insane.

Mine recommended 35 and I gained about 35. Tried so hard to make sure to gain 1 lb a week. Gave birth @ 38+ weeks to healthy 6lb 5oz babies. I don't think I gained more weight at a certain timeframe. Just tried to shoot for 1 a week.

I'm not pg with twins but I gained 36 with one!! so I wouldn't feel bad if you did gain more than that.

don't deprive yourself of nutrition if you feel hungry. just make wise choices and then you know you did the best you could do.

btw congrats on getting thru the first tri!!

My doctors have said 45-55 lbs for twin weight gain. That said, I'm almost 22 weeks and have gained 30 lbs. :(. I'm not trying to gain but if I'm hungry, I'm gonna eat! On the one hand my doctor said it's a little rapid for weight gain, but then she said also that my body is going to gain what it needs. It's not like I can diet right now ... as long as I'm eating healthy, I'm not worrying about it. Right now my babies are measuring about a week ahead,

I've seen a couple different doctors and an NP and they all have varied opinions on how much weight to gain in a twin pregnancy. The one today said not more than 35, but it would be fine with her if I didn't gain that much. I'm 12 weeks now and haven't gained any yet, but I want to make sure I gain enough to have babies that are as chubby and healthy as possible! It's also possible that I'm a little scarred from reading the Dr. Luke book about how inportant weight gain is for the babies. I'm a little bit overweight, but not terribly, so I was planning on shooting for the lower side of the range, but gaining 25 lbs with twins just feels low to me.

What did your doctor recommend? Did you hit that guideline? Was there a certain time period that you gained the most weight?
