Not a twin mama, but I was a twin nanny:)

Twin mama was someone that knew my mother & other people I'd worked for, she contacted me directly to ask if I would be interested on the position. But for another job I used care.com.

Twins' mama stayed home for the first couple of months before going back to work. During that time, I was in charge of the babies, but we did a lot of things together (you need one adult for each baby at Gymboree class for instance) and I helped her with the things that I couldn't do (tandem nursing). We would go to doctor appts together since that was hard alone, and sometimes each of us would take a baby, if I went grocery shopping and took an awake baby and she would stay with the sleeping one. I had certain chores, the laundry, making sure bottles/pump parts were ready and clean, restocking diapers, keeping up baby books, etc, but we ended up spended a good deal of time hanging out taking the babies for walks, going shopping with them, house hunting, going to lunch things like that. She hadn't been around babies before so there was a lot of 'teaching time' too- how to swaddle, give a bath, get on a schedule, etc.

We did not do a trial run because I was hired before they were born so I could start as soon as they came home from the hospital. But we did meet to go over things before the babies arrived and the girl we hired to job share with me and the night nannies all did trials first with me and then with the twin mama. Those were paid, then there was a 6 wk trial period after which their wage was increased.

I'm not a twin mama, but I found a nanny for two!

1. How did you hire your nanny? Where did you look? Care.com and sittercity are two great sites. We also asked our pediatrician and friends who have nannies to see if they had someone to recommend.
2. What are your nanny's duties? Particularly if you are a sahm.
@Mrs. Bee: has a great post on this aspect on the blog and it was what I used as our template.
3. Did you do a trial run? Assuming those are paid? If so, for how long?
I did one 2 hour trial run interview day that was unpaid and then 2 trial run care days which were paid. We wanted to make sure the girls were happy with the person we chose before we committed. After the two trial days, we had her sign a contract (which I will hopefully eventually blog about!)

Eek! I'm thinking of hiring a nanny. Need to find one within 2 weeks. Any recommendations for those in jersey? Hopefully there are som moms who can give me insight.
