I didn't make it very far with BF or BF with twins, but great job momma for making it this far! I did try tandeming in the hospital.

@twodoghouse: wow!! Thanks so much
....good to hear it gets better!! I just would love the time savings of tandem so I could enjoy awake time more :) or ..gasp...leave the house like a singleton mom does without the fear of feedings time in 15 minutes even though I fed right before leaving...hehe

We've gone back and forth. My twins were small at birth so it was hard for me to tandem nurse in the early days because they needed a lot of head/neck support. Around 3 weeks I was on my own with them during the day so I tandem fed 90% of the time during the day, but fed them one at a time once DH was home because he could hold one while I nursed the other. Around 4 months or so they were too distracted to tandem nurse because they'd poke each other, laugh at each other, etc. But it was easier to nurse one at a time because I could nurse one and play with/read to the other who sat next to me on a boppy on the couch. That would keep them happy enough while the other was nursing.

Around 8 months I went back to tandem feeding because they liked cuddling together. I'd do one across my body and one in a football hold. The baby on the right would have his head on the other baby's lap and legs, if that makes sense? We did that until 14 or 15 months, probably? Sometimes they'd still fight for one on one time (kicking each other, telling each other to move, etc.) so I would nurse one at a time when they seemed to want that. At a little over 2, I now nurse them tandem 90% of the time (not in the motn because they are rarely are both up at the same time). Now we tandem nurse in a weird position where A is sort of sitting up, but a little across my body and B is sitting up straight facing me. It's the only way we fit in the recliner in their room anymore! All this to say is that your nursing preferences (and theirs!) may change drastically over the next few months (or years). We've tandemed in a variety of positions, solo nurses in a variety of ways, with the Brest Friend pillow, with one boppy, with two, sitting straight up, standing (them, not me, haha), side lying, etc. Basically our nursing has always been evolving to what works best for all 3 of us. I would do whatever works and is most comfortable with DD's harness now and work on tandem feeding later if that's something that you think will make life easier then!

Following...I'm not there yet but I have heard that tandem nursing comes a little later. Do have access to a lactation consultant?

That sounds exhausting! Good job mama. I am not a twin mom so no advice, but hang in there and remember the older they get the easier breastfeeding will be!

Did you feed tandem or individually. I have 8 week old twins who are currently EBF. Months ago I said "of course I'll tandem feed" ...it just made logical sense. Reality is BFing is hard!!! I never quite got the hang of tandem and kept saying I'd figure it when my kids could latch better/ more independently.....well DD now has a pavlik harness and football hold is not very comfortable....so it looks like I'm putting tandem on hold again.

I guess my big question is will I ever feel like I'm not drowning if I don't switch to tandem feeding? Right now we are feeding on 2 hour cycles and it's not uncommon for each babe to be on the boob for 45 min. Add in diaper changes & laying them back down to nap and I barely have time each round to pee or grab a snack.

Help!
