This was us, I cried endlessly when I found out it was twins because three children in NYC equals $$$$$$$. We ended up losing one which was devastating and I was surprised at how much I wanted the twins once I found out I wasn't going to have them!

I would have been a lot more excited to have twins first than after a single kid, for sure. I would probably be 90% FREAKED OUT and 10% excited. Hopefully that would switch at some point, haha! Glad both of my pregnancies are singleton pregnancies though. Since DH and I have opposite schedules, parenting twins on my own a lot isn't huge on my list. My aunt is really excited that her 4th pregnancy is twins again though!!!! I think lifestyle plays into it a lot.

Currently pregnant with LO#1, if LO#2 was twins, I'd be stoked (since we are on the fence about 2 vs. 3, and I'd be getting 3 with only having to be pregnant twice). If I had 2, and then decided to have a 3rd, and it was twins, I'd probably FREAK!

Honestly we would be freaked out since we are MAYBE having a third. If that maybe third turned into a 4th? Plus, our second's sleep was so bad I can't imagine having even less. But ultimately it would be a lot of fun : )

@renee: I learned SO MUCH about both types of twins after I found out we were having twins. We thought ours were fraternal for the first 15 months until we paid to get genetic testing done to confirm and found out there were identical!

@renee: Idk if this will make you feel better or not, but since you are a fraternal twin, you already carry the gene for hyper-ovulation. Your chances aren't increased by your husband's family since that gene is only carried down the mother's side of the family. However, if you have a daughter, she'll have the gene from both sides!

It's a real possibility we've had to consider, IF med's I use give a 10% chance of twins and 1% chance of triplets.

I think I'd be ok with it not so sure about DH though :)

This is a fear of mine! I'm a twin (I have a twin brother), my MIL is a twin, and my husband has 2 sets of twin cousins. If we had twins for #2 pregnancy, I'd have to be a SAHM, which would be nice but I'd really miss working (which I'm now saying after being on maternity leave for 7 weeks… I miss work!).

My husband and I are SOOOO on the fence about #2 so if we went for it and had twins......it would be a major adjustment. Same as some previous posters have said, financially we couldn't afford to have them all in daycare or have a full time nanny, and mentally I couldnt cope with being stay at home mum to 1, 2 or 3. So we would definitely be in a bind. We are for sure waiting on TTC #2 until my son will be in preschool...my age will become a factor by then but so be it! (incidentally, the incidence of twins goes up with the mother's age...yikes!)

Twins for our second pregnancy is quite possible since we need IF interventions. It would be scary for sure, but I think we would just deal with it. Would definitely settle our 2 or 3 kids debate!

This is my story. I have a 19 month old and 7 week old twins. I agree that it's harder because you know what caring for one is like and then know how much harder than that two at a time is. If I'd had twins first I wouldn't know any different. My biggest fear about ever getting pregnant again is having twins again. For that reason we're probably done lol.

I grew up with a set of twins who had three older siblings. It was a busy household!

I'm also one and done so this thought is absolutely terrifying to me, even though we'd work it out and be thankful for the blessings.

I would not have been happy with twins for #2. Mostly because it would have been the same as my MIL and DD was already born on SIL's birthday so the comparisons would never end. I would probably freak when we go for #3 and t was twins but I might be more good natured (although totally freaking) about it!

I had a major hormonal cry in the middle of my doctors office. i was alone at the doctors with my two month old son when I found out I was 6 weeks pregnant with twins. I went between pure joy and major freak outs for several weeks before I adjusted to the idea. Now that they are in kindergarten it is super fun but the infant years were tough

For a long time I would have said that I'd have a terrible reaction to twins for #2/3, but it took us longer than expected to conceive and in that time I changed my mind. I still pretty much preferred a singleton but I didn't really think about it and figured if it happened, it happened, we'd love them. We had a vanishing twin early on but I didn't find out about it until s/he already stopped developing. I would have been ok with #2 being 2 and 3, but now that we are expecting #2 and want to stop at 2, finding out I was having 3 and 4 would totally freak me out.

Ummm..that happened to me. My son was 14 months old and i found out it was twins with my 2nd. There were all kinds of curse words coming out of my obs office. I actually saw the 2nd heart flutter before my doctor. She was laughing while i was freaking out. They arent home from the hospital but when i hold the both of them together my heart still freaks about having all 3 of them home together and only 17 months apart

@twodoghouse: My mother actually met someone the other day (a nice Australian woman on a plane :)) who had twins after two close in age singletons (12 months apart) and she said the twins were far and away easier. She said it was a lot more challenging with the two close in age but yet still far apart to require different schedules and food entirely - trying to breastfeed a newborn while a 12 month old runs around, trying to provide activities for a toddler while working around a busy nap schedule for a baby, etc. She said it was much easier having two on pretty much the same page - even with 2 older children!

I thought that was really interesting. I think it really just depends on the person and the situation probably!
