How far along are you? 6 weeks, 6 days
EDD? March 21 (which is the full 40 weeks. My doctor is hoping for 37 weeks)
How many months/years were you trying? ~2.5 yrs
Method of conception: IVF/FET
What does your partner think? This is our first pregnancy, and we were ultimately hoping to have two kids. We're both really excited that we're pregnant with twins, since that means we don't have to go through that lovely IVF process again :) My husband jokes that he wants to lock me in a padded room for the next 9 months, and I totally think he would if he could...
Thoughts/feelings/fears? Really nervous about miscarriage/disappearing twin syndrome, and then after that, super afraid of delivering too early. Counting down days until first trimester is over.

My twins are now 7! Don't know how that happened so fast. They were spontaneous. Identical mono di twin boys. I went on bedrest at 30 weeks after a preterm labor scare. I had another scare at 31 weeks but kept them cooking till 36 weeks 4 days. I had a vaginal birth and they didn't not need any nicu time. I was sort of prepared for some nicu time so it was but scaru when twe all went home within 48 hrs of delivery.

Twin mom here. My IVF twins (B/G) are 22 months now. I had quite a complications filled pregnancy (HG, SCH, PPROM) and the twins were induced at 34 weeks after I was on 6 weeks of hospital bed rest. The twins are doing well. They had some therapy from 6-18 months because of a common twin related issues where one favors one side and the other favors the other. So therapy helped them learn to use both sides (muscle) of the body. They are now 22 months and we have been approved for some therapy for communication. Everything else seems to be on track. Both are healthy, well a little bout of diarrhea at the moment. No signs of asthma, which is a relief since my DH has severe asthma. DD did have RSV at 4 months which required a 5 day hospital stay at CHOP. She got RSV again this past year and required a 1 day hospital stay. DS tested positive for RSV but did not require a hospital stay at all. His only minor health issue is eczema that flares up sometimes but the Aveeno eczema cream helps with that when it happens. We did find a deer tick on him a few months ago that luckily tested negative for Lyme's disease (yeah... welcome to the east coast... specifically CT!). We lived in Seattle previously so while we love being closer to family now, the big move and CT has had it's own issues. (Also, DH and I have been fighting a lot... so that's added stress.) I'm the primary provider for our family and DH has quite a bit of medical issues so trying to pretty much be a single mom when DH is having medical issues is pretty tough on me. Yeah, aside from the stress of working full time. Oh, and having issue with our au pair currently. I need to win the lottery so I can stay at home.

Oh, back to the twins, they do have a nebulizer for the twins since they sometimes wheeze when they get sick with a cold. We have only had to use it about 3 times so far and at the moment no wheezing otherwise. I'm hoping that's a good sign that they don't have asthma yet.

@Pumuckl: She said they don't usually do an u/s at the first appt but I didn't ask if they usually do a doppler. So maybe they do a doppler w/ singletons but will do an u/s with me. I sure hope so!!

@dominobee: that seems weird that they wouldn't do an u/s with a twin pregnancy. My doc is usually pretty restrictive with u/s but I got one every time with the twins. First to make sure both were growing and later for positioning and weight difference (they shouldn't be more than a lbs apart).

@dominobee: Things are going okay right now. I've had back to back UTIs the last two weeks which has been super annoying. Still a lot of fatigue, but I blame chasing a toddler all day. Nausea still comes and goes but it's way better than the first trimester! So I promise it gets better, haha! For my early care I was with my RE until 8 weeks and had my first appointment with my doctor at 10 weeks. My doctor does US at every appointment (at least for twins) because it's too hard to tell the difference between the heartbeats with a doppler. I'm surprised your midwife practice wouldn't do another US when establishing care. You could always ask if they could do one for you, do what you are comfortable with and be sure to advocate for yourself. Another option if they won't do one is to go to an elective US office, they are relatively cheap and can confirm if the two are still growing (we did this before we told our parents).

The reveal was awesome! Very low-key and fun which is exactly what we wanted. We announced to everyone we are having two boys! Everyone is excited!

@Pumuckl @mrs. champagne: No worries about thread-jacking! It's really nice to hear other people's stories.

I just got *great* news at work. I got a promotion to a job that will allow me to work from home toward the end of the pregnancy if I need to. And my work just announced they are purchasing short and long term disability and revising the maternity/paternity leave policy (which is basically nonexistent!) Figuring out how to take a leave of absence from work without disability & maternity leave was really weighing on my mind, so it's really nice to know that I'll have some options when the time comes!

@mrstal: How are things going for you? I'm pretty okay, still a little nauseous in the mornings and tired pretty much all the time. I have my first appointment with my midwife this week and I'm really excited to officially get my pregnancy care started! (I was with an RE until about 6 weeks). However I am a little bummed because when I called the office to find out if they would be doing an u/s at this next appointment (at 9w2d) they said probably not. I'd really like to get another peek to find out if there are still two in there. Maybe they will do a doppler to look for two heartbeats? One of the reasons I'd really like to get confirmation of two this week is because I'm telling my family this weekend! I'm not sure if I should leave the twin part out though, if we can't confirm at my appointment on Wednesday. What was your early care like? Oh, and tell us how your gender reveal party goes!!!!

@meadow: I guess you have the benefit of it not being your first rodeo though. So you know some of the ins and outs of parenting and what works for you/your family when it isn't your first child. I do have to say we do turn quite a few heads whenever we are out and about with our 4 under 4 though ;)
The positioning of your twins sounds uncomfortable :D So glad modern medicine has ways to enable a safe delivery.

@LML: I was quite astonished at the amout of people who automatically assumed that twins = c section. I had two head down babies so my delivery team was small. I had two midwives (one for each baby) and one doctor that was it. They just held onto baby B to keep him in his head down position once baby A was born. All this was possible without any pain meds so it really isn't too different from a singelton birth. (Well apart from the fact that you're doing it twice in only a couple minutes ;) Mine were born 4 minutes apart).

@meadow: Wow, that's pretty crazy positioning right there! I feel like twins move around so much. Mine were always in different places until the very end. My great-great grandmother had mono-di twins in the 1920s, at home. I now realize how insane that is. What if they'd been positioned like yours??? I guess she would have had a midwife sitting on her stomach trying to turn them!

I always say that it depends on the babies. I'd rather take care of two easy babies than one hard one!! My twins have been the easiest babies I've had. Thank goodness.

@LML: That is awesome that babies cooperated with positioning! I wanted a vaginal delivery but my LOs insisted on orienting themselves as a T with baby A butt down vertically and baby B sprawled across the top of my belly. Haha.

@Pumuckl: @LML: I give you guys so much credit for having twins as your 3rd and 4th. I don't know how you manage!!!!!! Part of what gets me through is not really knowing anything about life with a singleton!

Another recent twin mom here! I haven't posted at all (that I can remember) since the twins got here because I've been a little busy. But I wanted to say congratulations! Having twins is a blast and about a million times more fun than I thought it was going to be!! When I found out I was having twins around this time last year, I was so anxious and worried about complications and managing 4 kids (I also have a 3 and 5 year old). But everything turned out great, even though I had relatively high risk mono-di twins, and upped the risk factor when I got exposed to parvovirus in the 2nd tri. But everything ended up being perfect. I made it to 37 weeks 1 day, went into labor without having to be induced, and had a vaginal birth. One twin went to the NICU for just a couple of days for blood sugar issues, and that's it. It was about as smooth sailing as can be, which I am incredibly thankful for. I just wanted to share because when I was pregnant, all I read were terrifying twin pregnancy stories. Keep in mind that the uneventful twin pregnancy/birth stories usually don't get written because there isn't much to say. But they exist! Also, my doctor sent me to a preterm prevention nurse who put me on all sorts of vitamins and checked for potential signs of premature labor every week. She was a great resource and I think a big reason why we made it to 37 weeks.

I didn't end up needing any kind of bed rest, and I worked right up until the day before my water broke. I work from home though, so working wasn't super strenuous for me.

Enjoy it! Having my twins is one of the best things to ever happen to me!!

@dominobee: I stoped working on May 10th...exactly 30 days before my scheduled c section at 38 weeks. I started retaining water around the end of April which is when my doctors told me to start elevating my feet (not super practical during the day as a teacher). When I stopped working I spent a lot of time on my couch, feet propped. But I was never on bed rest.

A friend of mine IRL was pregnant the same time as I was and she was on bedrest/house arrest for a majority of her pregnancy after going into labor at about 4.5 months....

@dominobee: Sorry just saw this now. I was actually on bedrest and had an early labor scare. I did have a history of a shortening cervix since it happened with my second as well. (The twins were no. 3 and 4). So I decreased my hours from week 14 onward to 20h. How I was dividing those hours up was up to me - that was important as I had days were I needed to work a full 8h-10h day. By week 30 I was fully out of the workforce. And at 32 weeks I had an allergic reaction that resulted in bouts of vomiting and diarrhea and that sent me into preterm labor. Luckily they were able to stop it and the babies cooked until 36+2 when my water with twin A broke. (I still have to write my birth story up, hope to get around to that soon).

All that working less and bedrest were fine for me as I do not live in the USA so I was protected under maternity laws so my job was secure, I still got my regular paycheck etc.

I think you're making the right call to reduce your time spent on the road and getting a more office type job. Twin pregnancies are double the work for your body and you'll get really uncomfortable towards the end. But it is all worth it and while it is also double the work once the babies are here it is also double the joy and there's two babies giving you gummy smiles and giggling at your funny faces

@Mrs. Train @mrs. blue @sunshineandsushi: Thank you for sharing your stories! I'm applying for a different job with my employer that would make it more feasible to work from home. I'm a reporter right now and am applying for an editor position, so I wouldn't have to be going out on interviews or to press conferences. If I don't get the job, I might have to start looking for employment elsewhere - something that will require less running around and fewer unexpected long days.

I am meeting with my midwife & maternal fetal medicine specialist in about 2 1/2 weeks and I guess I'll get a better idea then of how long they will let me go.

Also I am already not pushing myself and being super lazy because of the nausea and fatigue. DH happens to be on temporary unemployment right now so I think it's been easier for him to be understanding and pick up the slack in terms of household chores, errands, etc. He will go back to work right around the time I hit the second trimester so hopefully I'll be able to start pitching in more around that time too. I feel fortunate these are our first children so I can totally be as selfish as I want and lay on the couch napping, reading and watching TV when I am not at work! The only regular chore I've been able to accomplish lately is watering the garden.

@dominobee: I was never officially put on bed rest. I delivered at 37 weeks. I would have only been allowed to go one more week. My twins were di-di and I didn't have any true complications during my pregnancy. However, I'll echo others that it was very uncomfortable and painful toward the end. I believe I went as long as I did because I refused to push myself. I told myself that my #1 job was growing them, even if I felt like a lazy beached whale on the couch each day! By 31-32 weeks, I started working half-days in the office and then half-days at home to stay more comfortable. By 34 weeks, I was working full-time from home. I worked from home until the day I went into labor. 34 weeks is also about the time I stopped driving.

@dominobee: I was monitored very closely to watch for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome since they were mono-di, but I actually never had any issues arise with that, no preterm labor, Hugh blood pr swore or any other complications. So, I worked until my scheduled day for th babies to be born, which was right at 36 weeks (that was the latest they would let me go since they were mono-do). The boys spent 8 days in the NICU, but other than that it was all pretty smooth. Twin pregnancy is hard, though, as far as just the discomfort and in all candor, it wasn't great working the last few weeks because I was so miserable. On the other hand, I've been pretty miserable with my other two pregnancies at the end, too, so maybe that's just the way the end of pregnancy feels. I was so worried about all the bad things that could happen that I didn't really let myself get super excited or enjoy the preparation phase of pregnancy, so my one piece of advice is that while you certainly may have complications and you should be well-informed, know that everything may go perfectly, too, and let yourself get as excited as you can.

@dominobee: I was not on strict bedrest but starting at about 30 weeks I was starting to have blood and pressure issues. Every time I stood up it went up so I spent about 2 months laying down on the floor with son. I deliver at 37 weeks.

@MrsTal: Congrats and yay! I'm glad to have another HBer pregnant with twins to bounce things off of.

@pumuckl @meadow @mrs.champagne @mrs.train @mrsscb @mrs.blue: Thank you all so much for popping in! Any advice you have is definitely welcome! I'm particularly curious how many of you had to go on bed rest or quit working early? I don't have maternity leave at my job so I'd really, really like to save my (mostly unpaid) time off for when the babies are actually HERE.

And @meadow that is a crazy story! I guess anything is possible!!

Another twin mom here already on the other side :)
I got my twin news pretty much a year ago. Now I have two happy 5 months olds...

How far along are you? I conceived in May '16
EDD? was 2/16/17, they were born 1/22/17
How many months/years were you trying? uhm, 1 month
Method of conception (natural, Clomid/Femara, IUI, IVF, FET): mine were spontaneous twins (B/G)
What does your partner think? If you are single, what do your family/close friends think? My DH was just as shocked as I was once I told him that there were two on the u/s (I went to the first u/s by myself). So our family was growing from 2 to 4 kids, so his first reaction was pretty much, "we need a bigger car"
Thoughts/feelings/fears? Twins are quite an adventure and some things are very different from a singelton (you know how you say "never wake a sleeping baby"? that is def. not good advice when we are talking twins). I can just recommend to talk to other parents of multiples because it really does help :)
