I wouldn't do it only because of the nap. My lo needs her nap at age 3 and if we did an afternoon activity, it would undoubtedly run into her nap every single time.

Is she napping at home, at school, or not at all? LO is 2 and takes a long midday nap so as long as her nap was good, it's like she resets for the afternoon. So, we can pretty much do "two-a-days" with no problem. Kids that go to daycare all day long adjust to 8+ hours of stimulation and activity! So, I'm sure she'd adjust, but it's just whether or not you want to go through that adjustment and if you think it's worth it, IMO.

LO has been doing ice skating Friday mornings and is in afternoon preschool. He crashes earlier that night but otherwise is fine.

My LO is almost 4 and goes to school 5 days week for half the day (8:15-11:45). She does swimming twice a week in the afternoons (4:40-5:10) and it's totally fine. Last year she did school 3 days a week and swimming sometimes fell on her school day and she was fine on those days too.

We can do them if it's two 1 hour classes or something like that, but on the days where she has half day preschool it's more difficult because preschool wears her out! (LO is newly 3.)

We do a 45 minute organized activity in the morning and 2 hours of preschool in the afternoon. This is twice a week and LO is 20 months. He does fine!

Gymnastics after a full day at preschool didn't work out so well when she was 2 but she is now almost 4 and activities that start after 5pm after school are fine. We also had two activities(swimming and soccer) for 3 weeks over the summer and that was ok because she didn't go to school on those days.

@Pancakes: I'd probably try to get her to take a short nap in between! She's still napping most days.

@MamaCate: wow she's a trooper! :)

Thank you both!

I am not sure this is the same but might help: my DD is 3 and in full time daycare/preschool. Over the winter she wanted to do soccer and it ended up being on a Wednesday night. So I picked her up from school, we went right to soccer, and then picked up take out on the way home. It was a little hectic but she did fine!

We haven't done another organized activity in the afternoon, but we often do preschool in the morning and then a playdate in the afternoon and she's fine. She's 4 though, and she's doing much better without an afternoon nap now than she was last year. Will you have time in between the activities to come home and have some quiet downtime? I think that would probably be helpful.

For those of you with kids who are at least preschool-age (3 or 4), do you ever double down on the activities? As in, have them do one thing (in our case, preschool) in the morning, then another activity (i.e., dance/sport or music class) in the afternoon? How does it work out for you? Is your LO too tired to enjoy their afternoon activity?

Backstory: I'd like to add another morning to my daughter's preschool schedule, and need to decide between a day when we have no activities, and a day when she already is doing something in the afternoon. I really think the day of down time is good for all of us (and it's nice to have a day that I know is always free for doctor appointments and errands), but I'm a little worried that she'll be exhausted! Would love to hear how this has worked out for others.
