@Mrs. Pen: It can be done :) When DS was almost 2 I started watching my daycare girl when she was 6 weeks old. It was an adjustment but it ended up working out really well. It really prepaired DS for being a big brother and sharing me. He has had no resentment or jealousy towards DD which I'm thankful for. I'm about to do it again because my daycare girl's Mom is expecting in September so DD will be just under a year when I start babysitting the new baby. I won't lie I'm WAY nervous because I will have 4 kids under 5 during the day. I really have to practice time managment to make it all work but it is for sure doable.

You'll get it figured out. It's not as bad as it seems. I've done daycare for little ones under one and it may take a week or so to get a routine down but you'll get it. Write out your LO's schedule and you find time for feedings, changing, and naps for the baby. When the baby naps your LO gets 1 on 1 time. Try to make time for both of them to nap at the same time so you have time to relax & clean up. Mid morning and after lunch work great! At least for me it did. There will be tough times, I can tell by how concerned you are about the care of the kids you'll do great.

One thing that I remember from a post that Marriage Confessions blog did when she had a toddler and a newborn: she noticed that her toddler was getting really frustrated being told to "wait" while she dealt with the baby, and that it seemed to make him feel much better when she would also tell the baby to "wait" if she was dealing with the toddler. For example, if she was helping her older son use his potty and the baby woke up, she'd loudly say "Baby, I know you are upset, but you will have to wait a minute while I finish helping Older Boy." And of course the baby didn't understand, but it helped the older kid to remember that he wasn't the only one who had to take turns with Mom's attention.

We are in the opposite boat. A friend of ours will be watching our LO starting next week. She already has a 7 month old boy, so it'll be her boy and our 6 week old girl. One thing we are making sure of is to have a double stroller that she can use. Also, we're going to discuss us baby-proofing our apartment so that her son can be active when she watches our LO at our place. We're going to split days between our apartment and her duplex.

Maybe it will be good practice for someday when C has a sibling! Hopefully you'll be able to babywear and maybe that would keep either from feeling neglected. I imagine it's one of those things you'll have to figure out a day at a time...you can do it!

No.. I'm not pregnant ;)

I am starting daycare for my friend in a little over a month, C will be 12 months almost exactly and the little baby will be 8 weeks. I am sooo nervous. It just hit me as I met the 10 day old baby last night and brought C with me! I'm only watching him for spring/summer until their daycare has an opening (August). But now the reality of watching two kids within a year of each other is setting in. I'm starting to think about simple tasks: dinner, other meals, nap times (Cobi has a set routine - how do I do that with a baby), keeping the house semi-clean (aka livable), feeding times for each of them, clean up etc...

Cobi is a great kid - but he's had my attention for a year and he's used to it. In addition there are other tasks that seem trivial now that will be a challenge with another one: feeding him breakfast/lunch, he is BLW but the cleanup is insane. Nap routine: he always has books and then we nurse - what if the little baby is crying or needs attention at that moment? How do I choose which child to attend to if they both need me?

etc etc..

tips? insight? support? relatable stories?
