@Rainbow Sprinkles: How are you going to get the infant seat over the convertible? I'm trying to imagine it, but I cannot see how it would fit lifting over a RFing seat to get it into the base? Seems more cumbersome than buckling a child RFing while reaching over a base? Curious because I have heard other people mention this but I don't get the legistics of how it would work.

DS 4 and FF is in the center
DD 18 mo is RF behind passenger
When baby arrives in Novemeber s/he will go in an infant seat behind driver

If your car allows it, the least protected goes in the middle. If you have one FF and one or two RF, the FF goes in the middle because they are least protected.

@Foodnerd81: Our car has center latch but the middle seat also has a fold down arm rest/cup holder to use if no one is in that seat and when we had our infant seat professionally checked they told us we couldn't put a seat in the middle due to that issue. I didn't see it in our manual but never double checked it and just trusted the pros! I guess if we end up with 3 LOs and the same car I'll have to investigate!

FF 3 year old behind the passenger, RF (infant seat) 1 year old behind the driver. We used to do the opposite, but depending on the car we are driving (we don't own so drive rentals when we take road trips or have major errands to run), the 3 year old's legs can reach the seat in front of her and she kicks when she gets bored.

I have no idea the best way to set up my kids. I drive a Honda Odyssey and DD will be RF (19mo) when DS arrives. I figure I'll have them moth in the middle row: bucket seat behind the driver and DD in the convertible behind the passenger but I wonder if there's a better way, especially for the winter.

I'm thinking of taking out one passenger seat in the middle row and closing them all in the car with me while I buckle them all. Oh logistics...

@Foodnerd81: I figured it would be hard to clip in the child into a convertible in the middle seat if there was a car seat and/or car seat base on either side. Whereas with the infant seat, I can clip her in before she goes in the car and then just plop it in place.

I feel like it would be really had to buckle a kid into a RFing convertible in the middle.

I don't know....I'm not too sure of the logistics of having three yet!

@MsMini: I agree! At age 3 she is a HUGE help to talk to him, sing to him, hand him a new toy or paci. She's FF in the middle and he's RF behind the passenger. Getting her buckled isn't too bad, no different than if she was just a single seat in the middle.

We started with my 3 year old behind the driver and baby behind the passenger. About a month ago my 3 year old asked to sit beside his sister (now 6 months old), so we moved him and I wish I would have done it sooner. They love to chatter to each other and he will replace her soother etc for me. It also left a better spot for a passenger to sit in the back with them.

@Alivoo01: it seems like the install would be a lot harder right up against each other. And now I'm remembering that we do have center latch, but one of the anchors is shared with one of the sides, I think it's the driver side, so we could only use latch with one and it's so much easier that way. (Like there are five anchors in the backseat).

The recommendation I received was to put the "least protected" person in the middle - so the older child because infant carriers are the most protection.

We plan on having the infant carrier behind the driver and LO1 RF in the center. We don't give LO1 hard/heavy toys in the car anyway, so I'm not too worried about her throwing them into LO2's seat, but I hadn't thought about snacks. And most of the people I know who have 2 carseats just go to the other side of the car to buckle them in, so it's not much hassle to sit in the seat beside the car seat and tighten the straps. I guess if it's a problem, we'll move her over.

I was planning on having DS in the middle since he's in the convertible and the baby on the side seat behind the driver. However, when I looked at the seat buckles, I wasn't sure how I can securely fasten the infant seat. The buckle for it butts up against the buckle used for the middle seat. Even on the other side, the buckle will be up against DS's car seat making it difficult to latch/buckle.

I'll try anyhow, but if I can't, then one car seat behind the passenger and one behind the driver.

If you have two kids in car seats, how are the seats situated and what are the ages?

When c was in her infant seat we had her in the center position, since it's safest and it fr best between the front seats that way. But we got a bigger car and have her convertible RF behind the passenger seat now. I figure when baby 2 comes we will have the infant seat behind the passenger and the convertible FF behind the drivers seat. But I see people talk about having one in the center, which seems like it would be hard to buckle and like my older LO might whack the baby with a toy or drop snacks in the baby seat...

(c will be about 28 months when new baby arrives).
