I like it :) I love the name Magnolia and I think Magnolia Fern sounds really sweet! Maybe you can branch into other nature names if you get to hung up on tree-tree or something like that!

River, Coral, Brook, Brier, Jade

Hard to make suggestions without knowing the actual first name!

I think it might feel a little too silly or theme-y, but I'm not sure how often people will hear them together. We tried so hard with LO1's name to make it flowed well and I only liked one syllable middle names, and idk now that it matters a bit. LO2's name is more of a mouthful, but it doesn't bother and I don't really care what other people think.

Ditto everyone else. I tend to think it's probably too much but it depends on the names.

@shabang: Maple Spruce made me lol. I'm gonna add that to the top of my list for the next kid ;-)

Maybe? Depending, like others said, on how specifically nature-y the names sound. But you shouldn't let that stop you if they are the names you like!

@catlady: @nana87: What they said. If it's more of a name, I wouldn't think twice.

Examples: Lily Rose - doesn't scream flower flower. Dahlia Fern - borderline too much. Maple Spruce - tree tree!

I think it depends on the specific combo, but for me it would be too much as a general rule. I've always disliked Beyoncé's Blue Ivy because it sounded like a kind of plant more than a name in that combo. I'd be more likely to use Juniper Jane than Juniper Wren, for example, but like most things, that's just a matter of personal taste. I don't think your kid will be scarred or teased for a name like Magnolia Fern (both of which are lovely choices, btw).

I like it! But my second daughter is named after an actual plant (as in genus/species).

I think it'd depend on how common the names were as names, you know? Like Rose would register to me more as a name than a plant, but Peony would strike me first as a flower (I've never heard that as a name, just giving an example! ;) )

I think it depends on the names. I personally think Magnolia Fern is a bit too much, but I'm not necessarily drawn to most flower names to begin with so take that with a grain of salt. I do think some names are more classic even though they are floral (Rose, Lily) and it might be easier to combine those without it seeming overly nature-y.

Gosh. I think it really depends. If it's like Poppy Rose, then I think it seems a bit much but something like Poppy Savannah or Poppy Marina seems less redundant. Does that make sense? So maybe instead of flora, go a different albeit still natural route.

DH and I are 100% sure of LO's first name, but struggling to solidify middle name options. First name is a kind of plant, and I'm really drawn to a few plant names for middles: Fern, Rose, Poppy, etc. <- not drawn to them because they are plant names ... I just happen to like them.

So, would a name like: "Magnolia Fern" (not the name) stand out as two nature names? No big deal? It's so rare people would ever even see her full name.
