My first LO was day trained at 22 months, so pretty early. She wore a pull-up for naps and bedtime until she was 3.5! She stayed dry at naps pretty early on but didn't stay dry at bedtime until we took away the pull-up. Once she understood she had to hold it or get up in the night to potty, she got it basically right away.

We really only used the little potty for potty training (a couple months)? I was not into the whole dumping and cleaning thing so we got potty rings for both bathrooms she used and a stool and she was fine with that as a young 2 year old.

Thanks all! This is all very helpful. I think we will try to ditch the nap time pull ups first and go from there!

1. DS is 3 and has done so well at potty training. He was dry in the morning for a month, so we just recently ditched the night time diaper. Of course then we had a busy weekend where he was up late, routines were thrown off and he wet the bed two nights in a row. I think both times he was just in to deep of a sleep to wake up and realize he had to go. So we're back in diapers (or pull ups) at night for now.

2. We ditched the little potty ASAP...probably a month or two after we initially potty trained. I really hated cleaning it out and DS does pretty well at dragging his stool over and at this point doesn't even need a little seat to sit on. He still needs help pulling his pants up and wiping but switching from the little potty to the big one didn't cause much of an issue. We just told him they were going away..he asked about them a couple of times but didn't put up too much of a fight.

Q1: our kids were dry at around 29/30m for day time and nights were within 2-3 weeks for DS1 and 3-4 weeks for DD1. I told them they had to have a dry pull up (which we reused 2-3 times) for 2 weeks in a row.

Q2: We basically only used the little potty before they were ready for underwear (they both started sitting on the potty before and after bed at around 21 months). And only occasionally used it after then. We did use a toilet ring and step stool for about 6 months for DD1 and 3is months for DS1 (who is just so tall (over 4ft tall at the ripe ol’ age of 5) so he had an easy time)

1. DS is 4 in October and is still in diapers overnight. I'm debating not putting him in one on Friday night as I always change sheets on Saturday anyway. (I think he goes in his diaper the moment he wakes up.)

2. We never used one.

Sorry I'm not more helpful.

1. My five year old still wears a pull-up at night. He's dry most of the time, but not always, so we just keep using it.

2. For my oldest, he eventually just preferred to use the big potty and stopped using the little one on his own. My youngest has been potty trained for 8 months and refuses to even try using the big potty.

1. We still use pull ups for night. I'd say she's dry about 50% of the time in the morning. She'll go a couple weeks and be dry nearly every morning but then have a week or two where she is wet nearly every day. I just figure I'll stop using them when she is consistently dry for at least a few weeks. I'm not in a rush. We use goodnights because when she does pee overnight, it's A LOT and she occasionally leaks out of diapers still. I congratulate her when she wakes up dry and we talk about being a big kid, but that's the extent of the pressure I'll ever put on her.
2. We only used the little potty at the very beginning, so it's been gone for a long time now. She has always been fine using the big potty and it just seems easier and less gross. Makes it easier to use public restrooms too, since she's used to big potties.

We still use diapers overnight for convenience. I agree pull-ups are too expensive for that! I don’t think he needs them but he wakes early and with late pregnancy and soon having a newborn I just wanted one less thing to worry about ... if I don’t get to Change him soon enough he will go in there which is fine as it doesn’t seem to confuse him the rest of the time. So I’d say whenever you decide you want to push it and be done!

I hate the little potty and ditched it pretty soon - we went on vacation and I refused to bring it and hid it when we got back. He goes standing up now for #1 using a step stool - we have giant fixtures. Holding onto the lid (which I think @LBee: suggested?) helped a lot with stability and aim. Also we talked up that’s how daddies and big boys go and he loves to pretend he’s putting out fires :silly:

I stopped the pull ups when she wanted to. The naps it was fairly early on- she always woke up dry from nap and one day said she wanted to keep undies on. Easy. For nighttime she was almost always dry anyway, so we would reuse the same pull up for several nights. Eventually she asked to stop. She has had occasional accidents- and mostly it would be like 2-3 times in one week, then a few weeks dry. I honestly cannot remember when it was but I’m sure it was after 3 because that’s when we moved and it was in the new house.

To make changing sheets easier on myself, I double layered then for ages. So waterproof mattress pad, fitted sheet, flat sheet, then another waterproof pad and sheets. If she peed overnight I could just pull off the top layer and there was a fresh dry layer underneath and I could deal with the wet sheets in the morning.

I should also say she was never a heavy wetter overnight. Like she would wake up dry most mornings before we even started potty training, then pee a lot shortly after waking up.

Oh and we never used a little potty so no transition or experience.

1. I had my son in a pull up forever, I want to say he was at least 5 because I work full time and didn't want to be washing sheets during the day. I would say he was dry for a year consistently though.

2. We never used a small potty, we had an integrated ring on the toilet seat and a Little Looster Booster ring around the base.

Question 1: when did you stop using pull ups overnight?
I work full time so I am requiring 30 days of dry diaper. I just don't have time in the AM to be washing sheets and getting them back on the bed by that evening. He will get like 20 days in a row and then randomly pee in his diaper. I'm not concerned and he's not bothered by it. He sometimes wears underwear over the diaper. He also throws away the diaper in the morning and changes into underwear on his own. We don't use pull-ups though because they are expensive - just the cheapest diaper we can find.

Question 2: when did you put the little potty away and transition to the big potty full time?
We didn't really transition as much as just told him the little potty was disgusting and it was being thrown away. We tossed it after about 6 months of us. He didn't really care and only peed in it at the time.

My little is about the same age and also does really well. We mostly use the big potty but haven't put away the little potty, but we didn't use it that much from the beginning. If it was me I'd just encourage him to use the big potty over the little and not get too wrapped up in a timeline.

I plan to use pull ups for overnight for the foreseeable future but I would hate for her to wake up with wet sheets (and she isn't waking up dry yet anyway). We don't use pull ups for naps though, I read that's the better way to help teach them to wake up to pee

DS is 2.75 yo and has been doing AWESOME with potty training. He hasn’t had an accident in over a month and is able to pull down his pants and go without asking for help. He still needs help wiping and pulling his pants up. He wakes up dry from nap like 99% of the time and is dry in the morning like 90% of the time (wet once in the last 2 weeks). He uses a little potty most of the time, but will go on the big one. He has a step stool that he knows how to get out and he also knows how to put the little seat down as it’s built into the regular seat.
Question 1: when did you stop using pull ups overnight?
Question 2: when did you put the little potty away and transition to the big potty full time?

I don't want to mess with a good thing but I also want him to get used to the real potty
