I actually wish we had a softer toddler side. C is 18 months and was having trouble sleeping in her crib but would sleep fine on the much softer bed in her room (with Dh or me in the bed with her). I just layered a very thick fleece blanket under her crib sheet and she started STTN again. I assume we will continue to be in a toddler bed for at least another year before moving to a twin (and he's now 26 months), so we will definitely get use out of it. I'm not sure I feel a huge difference in comfort, but I'm not the one sleeping on it! If you plan to move straight from crib to twin (or whatever), though, one side is probably fine. The two-sided version is a bit more expensive, but I'm thinking it's probably cheaper than buying a separate toddler mattress down the road.</p> <p>If you had a two-sided mattress, at what age did you flip it and do you feel you got enough use out of it before moving onto a bigger bed/different mattress? </p>
