@mariej - we had been cosleeping for the past two weeks b/c he was sick. Tonight was supposed to be his first nightt back in the crib to get ready for sleep training this Friday but after an hour and a half of rocking and patting, he slept a total of 15 min. So he's back on his tummy in our bed. I'm worries about him being overtired before we begin sleep training but I'm also worried he is going to have to adjust to sleeping on his back, sleeping in his room and not being rocked. :( I'm so worried sleep training isn't going to work!

@mrslace: unfortunately, no. Dd hates being swaddled. She's still co-sleeping with us also, but will sleep on her back now. However, she has to be in a deep sleep before we put her on her back. If not, she'll wake up.

I hope you have more success than I did!

@BabyBoecksMom: thank you! I will try that too.

@MamaG: thanks! The hearing pad is a good idea. I imagine it would be quicker.

If you are considering the hot water bottle, I had a co-worker mention using a heating pad. I'm not sure how long it took, but I think they turned it on in the crib when starting the nightly routine and then removed the heating pad before laying the baby in the crib.

I definitely wouldn't CIO, because 3 months is way too young. But I would try the swaddle and even putting some rolled up blankets on either side of her to give her that close feeling.

@kjn: The CIO method makes me so sad, I bet that was so hard for you all. If that what it ultimately takes for us, then so be it. I'm
Open to trying anything!

@Mrs. Stroller: thanks for the tip! I will definitely remember that!

@Lindsay05: she does sleep In her carseat so I might need to invest in a crib wedge. Thank you!

@Kemma: I have not tried that, but I will! Thank you!

I don't really have any advice but have you tried warming up her crib with a hot water bottle so it's warm when you lie LO down?

Maybe try propping up her mattress up so that she's not lying flat on her back but with more of an incline? Will she sleep in something that has an incline like a carseat or a swing? If so, then maybe propping her up might help.

@MarieJ: When you put her down have her bottom arm sticking straight out so that it's not under her. That way if she does roll, she's likely to roll onto her back. And hopefully that will happen when she's asleep and she won't know!

Our dude was similar - he would only sleep while being held. At three months I was so sleep deprived that I needed to get him in his crib. We tried all sorts of things to slowly transition him to the crib but none of them worked. In the end we used cry it out with complete extinction. It was painful and it took some time but it was so worth it for us.

@Bao: thanks!

@NerdBee: thanks! She hates being swaddled! Lol, she wants her hands to be free. I do try to swaddle her with her hands out, but I don't think it's the same :(

We put M on his side starting around 3.5 months for naps (no swaddle.) You might want to check with your pediatrician to see if that would be ok since he/she would know how well you baby controls her head. I also agree with PP, even if it's a tummy swaddle (like a swaddle-me, but with the arms out if she's used to sleeping with her arms out). The pressure on their tummy helps them sleep better.

There's an end in sight though, as soon as she starts to roll, she'll be able to get herself to her tummy and sleep that way safely as long as you don't have bumpers in her crib.

Have you tried swaddling? I think that swaddling puts pressure on their chest, similar to sleeping on their tummy. My LO was swaddled until he could roll over by himself. He has been sleeping on his tummy ever since and quit the swaddle cold turkey.

As for transitioning to the crib for sleeping, that's a tough one. My LO slept in his crib since 4 weeks so I don't have experience with that. Maybe you can start slow with rocking until drowsy and put down? If she wakes up, then pick up until she is calm and put down again. You may need to do this multiple times until she stays down.

White noise also helped us in keeping LO asleep longer.

Wish I had more advice! Good luck!

DD is one week shy of 3 months old. Until now, she has co-slept with us. She hates sleeping on her back. She'll wake up as soon as I place her down on her back. For that reason, I have been letting her fall asleep on my chest (bad, I know but desperate times call or desperate measures!)

I am as ready as I'm ever going to be to transition her to sleeping in her crib in her own room. How do I train her to sleep on her back? Also, how do I train her to get used to her crib for naps/night time sleeping?

FWIW- I will let her take naps on her tummy since he has good head control. I just watch her like a hawk during.

Any help would be SO appreciated!
