I thought you used 2 twin XL mattresses to make a king?

@lamariniere: yes I was worried about the gap. We will get a bridge and also put a king size sheet on to keep them together

This is totally the way people do it in Austria! We had a really hard time finding a king because the vast majority are sold as two twins. You even see this in hotels. I'm personally not a fan because of the gap, but I imagine you could find something to put in between them. For maneuvering in tight spaces it makes sense. And you could each choose the firmness you like.

@SugarplumsMom: DH and I sleep with separate blankets. He is always hot and I'm always cold. :D

@Shutterbug: @MapleMoose: that's a great point that we both can get different beds, i love plush beds and DH loves hard mattresses.

I am not a fan, we did it for a while when we were in between housing arrangements and while I loved the space, it was always "off."

I've also stayed at various hotels in Europe where this is the norm and there's always a ditch in the bed.

That's actually the standard here in Sweden. Two mattresses pushed together with either a large topper that covers both or 2 separate toppers. The bed frames all accommodate for the set-up, giving extra support to the middle of the bed. The sheets are all separate as well, which means your own blanket. It took me a while to get used to, but now I actually prefer it!

DH and I put two twins in a King frame because he sleeps on a pillowtop while I'm on concrete. We don't notice the edge in the middle of the bed, probably because we each have enough room on our own sides and being polar opposites in regards to the mattresses we don't often sleep on the other person's side anyways.

My parents replaced their full bed with two twin mattresses on a king bed frame. They got latex mattresses that you can customize so they each customized their own side. They use king sheets, but you can tell it's two separate mattresses when you feel the middle. They love it though, because they don't wake each other up from tossing and turning.

Also, most king mattresses come with split foundations (ours did) and you can bend a mattress to fit in small doorways.

Okay this is a strange question....

DH and I are in the process of buying a home. We have a crappy queen mattress that we will not be moving with and I would love a king bed but the apartment we are planning on purchasing has a small staircase and no elevator. I was thinking of getting two twin mattresses and making it into a "King"

DH's parents do this in our room in their PA home. We sleep on it and its totally fine. They have a foam bridge and king sheets so the mattresses do not split apart.

I'm wondering is this crazy and any other bees sleeping on two twin mattresses pushed together?
