Ours were 19 months apart and we got a second crib. We transferred DD1 into a big girl bed when she was 29 months. Now that we are pregnant with our third, I am glad we have two cribs, because we will probably have them both in use at the same time again!

ours are 16 months apart and we got a second crib. our friends who have the same age gap went with a twin bed for their oldest. both ways worked! just depends on your own kid/what you want to do :)

We're going the 2nd crib route when LO comes in January. I'd love to switch DD to a toddler, but we don't have a gate on our stairs, and I'm not confident in her getting down them yet.

My girls are 17 months apart. Transitioned DD1 to a twin at 15 months back in February. Transition went very smoothly and I have absolutely no regrets. So glad we didn't have to spend money on another crib or toddler bed that would have very limited use.

Mine are 18 months apart and we got a second crib. B had enough change to deal with that I didn't need to add to that, so I kept her in her crib. I'm really glad I did as she really fought bedtime for a while after G was born, so it was nice to have her in the crib where she couldn't get out. She will be 2 this month and I have no plans to move her to a bed any time soon.

Still pregnant with LO2 but mine will be be 2 years 7 months apart and we just ordered a second crib. LO1 is still in a crib (which I will keep unconverted for as long as possible) but my reasoning is I want him in the converted toddler bed with waterproof mattress and small sheets until he is nighttime potty trained (we are not even ready to start daytime training yet).

Same age difference. Bought 2nd convertible crib for LO1 on craigslist and moved him into a new room and put baby in nursery without changing anything (same gender). Thoughts were if LO1 started climbing out of the crib I hadn't shelled out $$$ for a new crib. He stayed in the crib for about 9 months and is sill in the converted toddler bed now so it was a good decision. We knew we would put the baby in the nursery right away so we didn't have that cushion of time. Plus we wanted to do any transition well before baby's arrival. It was also nice to have a crib in LO1's room to put LO2 in while I had to change or dress LO1.

We did the same thing as @kodybear: and it worked out great! Saved a ton of money by not buying another crib or a toddler bed that could only be used in the short term. L was only 15 months when we switched him to the twin bed with the long guardrail and the transition was so easy for us - he actually wasn't even walking yet, so he never tried to get out of the bed. Even now that he is able to, it very very rarely happens.

ours were 22 months apart and we bought a second crib. should have transitioned to a bed though! ended up doing it at 26 months when charlie wouldn't stop climbing out in his sleep sack, but i think it would have been better to do it sooner.

My two are that exact age difference. I transitionedLO1 to a twin bed when he was 2. I kept both my babies in my room in an Arms Reach Cosleeper for the first 5-ish months. I transitioned LO1 when the baby was 4 months to give my toddler time to adjust to his new bed for about a month before giving the baby the crib so there wouldn't be jealousy issues. All went smoothly! It took a few nights for him to be happy in his new bed but smooth sailing after that. I used a door monkey (look on Amazon) to keep him in his room and would highly recommend getting one. He was over the crib by the time the baby started using it.

We have a 22 month age gap and went with second crib. I agree to keep them in the crib as long as possible! My oldest is 2 years 3 months old now and we have no plans to move him out of the crib anytime soon. He sleeps well in it and there has already been enough changes in his world for now.

Ours are 22 months apart. We transitioned LO1 to a bed at 23 months (but if the transition didn't work, I was prepared to buy a second crib). I knew LO1 would be sleeping in a pack n play in our room for a couple of months, so we had a little bit of time.

We had a twin bed and a crib in LO1's room for 1-2 months before LO2 was born. We'd read stories and snuggle in the twin bed. Around 23 months, she asked to sleep in the big girl bed, so we let her. Every day for a couple of weeks, we'd ask her where she wanted to sleep and every time (but once), she asked for her big bed. After a few weeks, we took down the crib and moved it to LO2s room.

LO1 never got out of her bed and slept great. I built up this huge transition in my head and it wasn't a big deal at all.

22 months apart. Got a toddler bed that converts to a twin, attempted a move, failed miserably, so now I have a second crib on top of the toddler bed, lol. When we got the 2nd crib, I was more than happy to shell out the cash to keep LO#1 in the original crib.

22 mos apart. We got a second crib and are glad we did since we have the same age difference between the second and third. My first stayed in his crib until age 3 - climbed out for the first time about a week before turning 3. We got him a twin bed but had the crib still in his room with the intention of room sharing with the baby - that experiment flopped but the crib is still there and the 3 year old usually just still prefers his crib.

Mine are 18 mo apart and I transitioned LO1 to a twin bed around 16 months. It was great and has been working well for us.

LO2 is now 15 months and I plan to transition him out of the crib sooner rather than later, as well.

FWIW, at our daycare, the kids transition to floor cots around 17 months (or earlier if the child shows readiness-- can walk to cot and lie him/herself down, consistently takes 1 long nap, etc) so that has helped for us.

My son will be about 25 and a half months old when baby #2 is born, so pretty close to 2! I plan to keep him in his crib while the baby is using the bassinet, so I figure that will buy me a few months. Then, I will transfer him to a regular twin bed with a guardrail when he is closer to 2 and a half and give his crib to the baby. He's very tall for his age, so I think a toddler bed wouldn't last us very long.

We have the same age gap and I moved Lo1 to a twin bed. It went very smoothly and it's been about a year since the switch! I just made the twin bed similar to the crib with the guardrail and blocked one end with a comforter so it seemed more enclosed like a crib.

Tell me about your sleep situation if you had 2 under 2. Did you transition LO1 to bed? How did it go? Opt for 2nd crib? Happy with decision?

If all goes well, LO1 will be 20 months when LO2 arrives.
