@babyjack: Its a pain but its definitely worth it to just take your car seat.

carseats are forward facing in dc ubers but i have a toddler so that wasnt a huge issue for us. as an alternative. we were able to metro almost eveeywhere including to/from the airport or walk if the weather is nice.

@Littlebit7: This happens in Boston too and it blows my mind. Mom's post in my local mom's Facebook group about wearing their babies in Uber's "only a couple of miles and it's fine". I just don't get it.

@babyjack: In my experience (2 miles from the airport), getting an uber family is hard. They only have forward facing seats. However, where are you staying? I don't have a car (DH has it all day) and bus and metro everywhere. If you are downtown I wouldn't bother trying to bring a car or carseat and just metro or take the circulator.

I would bring a light car seat. We recently went on a cruise and needed to uber from the airport to cruise terminal. It was a pain in the butt lugging 2 car seats around but I would never put my baby in any car without the proper seat.

In NYC uber family cars only have forward facing seats (brand almost always is immi go I think)

I'd definitely invest in a lightweight travel seat or plan to do exclusively public transit. We did the latter when we visited DC before we moved here. It was a bit of a pain but honestly worth it not to drag a car seat for what we were doing. I echo what's been said above that all seats are FF and not moveable.

@babyjack: the car seats Uber uses are strictly forward facing seats. There is no way to turn them rear facing.

Typically they are forward facing and can't be rearfacing. At least in the NYC area that is the case.
And I know this is a sensitive topic but you aren't magically safer in a cab just because it doesn't require car seats (I'm not saying you believe this or singling you out. I'm just bringing it up because "everyone does it" here in NYC and there is zero rationale behind not having your kid in a car seat in a cab in NYC. Zero). It's similar to the phenomenon that occurs when people don't wear seat belts in cabs. It makes no sense.

Sorry, I digress. I'd drive or bring something super lighthweight/easy to install like the cosco scenera next.

@Foodnerd81: thanks for the reply. yea, i tried to research this topic to determine whether i could ask the uber person to turn the seat.

Hopefully someone else can elaborate more, but I am pretty sure they only have forward facing seats, which wouldn't work for a ten month old (but would be better than nothing in a cab).

I was contemplating this a few months ago but we decided to just drive there instead.

Hello,

I need help please! I am traveling with a 10 month baby to DC. I really do not want to bring a car seat. Has anyone have experience with UBER and carseats? I read on their website it is an additional $10 on top of the UBERx level.

Can anyone share their experience? I don't know if I should UBER everywhere or take a cab. Cabs are not required to have car seats.

THANKS
