We have routines around who does what. So, for example, if daddy is home he brushes teeth and reads stories. Sometimes she protests initially, but we just say " nope, this is how we do it." I also get her reeeeally excited about him coming home. And, whenever possible, I leavethe two of them alone. If he is home on Sunday he takes her grocery shopping.
His schedule at work an be intense so we have to be pretty intentional about insuring that he plays a significant parenting role.

@MamaCate: I think ours has to do with my schedule too in
that I'm her primary caregiver. but I really like your idea of telling her to ask him for whatever she wants. so often we're both there and she comes to me. I think it would make people happier all around if she went to him for more stuff!

@lizzywiz: Ugh this is hard! My LO is three too. Due to DH's schedule, she and I spend a lot more time together than they do, and then when he is around more she can be a pain and only want mama.

The two things I try to do are:
-make them spend time together without me, even if LO is initially against it, she ends up having fun.
-back up DH when he wants her to do something. When she says she only wants mama, sometimes I tell her mama is busy (like cooking dinner) so she can wait fir me if have DH help her now. Having him meet her needs helps I think.

Good luck! There are other days she tells me "you are not my friend" so it comes and goes...

And, now that she can talk, it is extra harsh!

I recently posted about some marriage rockiness, but giving credit where it is due, DH is a good, loving, playful Dad. And LO has recently started clinging to me, requesting me and kinda being mean to him. She had a mama preference before but I thought we were done with it...
I don't like it.
Anybody experience this?

(I don't think it has anything to do with marital problems 1) because they are subtle and 2) because they were happening long before her change in behavior)
