@CatchAFallingStar: I hope you got reassuring news from the ped. My kid fell over my arm onto the concrete floor of the garage at ~4 mos. I was so traumatized but in the end she was fine. I called the Dr & they had me bring her in to check her out. I've never forgiven myself for not holding her closer to me while I set something else down out there.
At ~12mos she also leaned over the edge of her crib & fell out onto the carpet. I had JUST looked at the monitor & saw her holding her socks out. I heard the thud from downstairs & glanced at the monitor as I took off running upstairs to her room. She seemed fine & didn't even cry. We watched her carefully for signs of injury, but saw none.
They scare the heck out of us, but usually are just fine!

I woke up a few weeks ago to a loud smack and immediately realized I’d fallen asleep with the baby lying on the outside of the bed  my first rolled off the bed once too but that was at least into some pillows, this was directly onto hardwood floor. She calmed down very quickly though and me and my husband just watched her for a while before going back to sleep. The next day she had a bruise along the ridge of her ear so she must have landed on her ear. Anyway, point is, she was fine and it happens to all of us! I hope she is ok today!

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Its such a terrible feeling. I was so so so careful with my first daughter... and now... with my second baby... I've dropped her a short distance off a boppy lounger I was trying to move from one spot on the floor to another, and she's also rolled off the couch. Older baby girl just threw the biggest play dough part thingy at her face last night. I'm quite literally dying all the time. I haven't taken her to the ER for any of these things. She cried and I was able to settle her down. I'm sure there were other reasons why I didn't take her to ER, but those things stand out in my mind. Go easy on yourself. We are all just moms trying to do the best for our kids. Multi-tasking is so hard to do.

ETA: When my husband watches my girls, they always end up with scrapes and bruises and marks that I can see. But when I watch them, I feel like they have brushes with death that don't leave a mark. :crying: I don't know why I'm adding this to my comment... but just don't beat yourself up. This stuff happens and hopefully we can prevent it from happening again. But if we don't, again, we are just still trying to do out best. <-- pep talk for you AND me.

My youngest rolled off a low bed onto a marble floor in a foreign country when he was about 3 months old. I was gutted. He was fine. It still haunts me.

@CatchAFallingStar: Exact same thing happened to my son at 5 months—rolled off a 3’ bed onto carpeting because I turned to reach for something. He is fine and sounds like your girl is too. I felt like such a sack of shit, I understand—but it’s okay :) I called my brother and SIL and they told me babies are tougher than they look.
@DesertDreams88: this is a helpful list!

DS slipped in the tub right in front of me just shy of 18 months and cracked a tooth and split his lip (chin on the side of the tub) Also went face first onto a gravel road and got a black eye and a cut that we probably should have gotten stitches for since he now has a visible scar. No ER either time but watched him closely...though we did have to see the dentist for the tooth which was impossible that young and now it’s crooked!

Totally been there and I felt just sick since I ‘let’ it happen under my watch so I feel you. But accidents happen and your gal is ok and kids are shockingly resilient. I think we all feel guilt even years later!

Ugh I am sorry this happened! I can totally relate. DD1 roll down a flight of stairs (5 steps) when she was 1. Totally freaked out but good thing I called the ped and not rushed to the ER (in the snow too). He said babies actually protect themselves better than adults when that happens and as long as we watch her, she should be fine, and she was! Not even a bruise and also I remembered later that she didn't land on her head.

DD2 recently fell off the high back of the couch. She loves to climb it like her sister and didn't realize it was so high (we were at my parents, their couch is higher than ours) and fell down with a loud bang  This time I didn't even call the peds just monitored.

My oldest was 8 months old when she pulled herself up in the pack n play downstairs (i has just put her in there to unload groceries from car) and I watched as she flipped over and fell on the hardwood floor. Ugh. I called the doctors office line and they gave me signs to watch out for (sleepy, disoriented, vomiting) and as the nurse was listing it out, she vomited. So I ran her over to the doctors office yelling at her the whole time so she wouldn’t fall asleep. She had to get a head scan which was more traumatic for her than the actual fall bc there’s no easy way for an 8 month old to get one. She was fine.

Don’t beat yourself up mama! It’s ojay!

Ugh, I'm sorry! Since she's acting normal, she seems fine - and good thing you have a doctor's appointment anyway!

Both of my kids have fallen off our very tall bed (3 feet at least). DS fell off twice, both times while goofing around right in front of DH. Luckily he landed on a laundry hamper both times, so he was just a little scared.

DD on the other hand... she was such a bad sleeper that at one point I tried co-sleeping. That went fine for a couple of months, and then one night I was so exhausted I hadn't realized she was on the wrong side of the bed. And then, thud and scream :bummed: Poor kid! She landed right on the hard wood floor, and must have hit a crib leg on the way down, because she had a ginormous bruise down the side of her face. I kept her awake for a while after that (not that she was trying to sleep...) and once she calmed down she was acting totally normal. So, no ER. But of course I felt like the worst mom ever, she had that bruise for days, and we never co-slept again. That was way too close.

Funny thing though, she took her first steps a few days later. It's like she realized that compared to falling off a bed, tripping while walking is nothing.

Thank you all!! She’s laughing, playing peekaboo and being silly. No visual signs of injury.

I have a history of anxiety and panic, so I’m never sure if my reactions are instinctual or overreacting/anxiety related.

I think she’s ok, but I’m literally still shaking and not yet over it. I’m still worried. Big sister has a doctor’s appointment in the morning, so I’ll have her looked at then and I’ll wake her a couple times tonight to make sure she’s still normal. :bummed:

Ugh that thud is the scariest sound! Don't beat yourself up, I think it happens to all of us as we adjust to our babies' increasing mobility. My baby took a nosedive off of the couch onto a hardwood floor and I was also unsure what to do. A quick call to the pediatricians office assured me that she should be fine, just keep an eye out for signs of concussion (vomiting, lethargy, etc). These babies are more resilient than we think. good luck!

With head injuries, my ped told me it was only serious if these symptoms were present:
- Fluid leaking from nose or ears
- Pupils unresponsive to light or unequal size
- Unable to be comforted
- Wobbly and off-balanced walking or crawling (more wobbly than normal)
- Vomiting
- Confusion
- Fever
- Temporary loss of consciousness (duh?)

All three of mine fell off of furniture. One just on my watch and the other two with BOTH of us there! The oldest and youngest just fell off of something low, but the middle child fell off a high bed, like yours, and onto a (carpeted) hard floor with a HUGE bump. We also did not go to the ER and baby was fine. I totally panicked and we had to see family the next day so it was not my proudest moment. It really only takes a second, but don't beat yourself up over it. I think it happens to more moms than not. :(

Ugg. I'm sorry. My first has two bad falls. The first around 7 months and the second around 2. I was told to watch for signs of concussion and to bring them in if they seemed off at all. I'd probably call your after hours pediatrician line, but she's likely fine

My poor baby fell from my bed that’s about 3 feet off the floor. She fell into the carpet but I’m not sure if she may have hit the pack n play leg a little when she landed. That thud when she fell was like a nightmare. So horrible. I thought we should rush to the ER but my DH said she seems fine and normal. This happened to my older daughter once, too. Both times under my watch. How could I let it happen again!?! I feel so angry at myself. I obviously know she is rolling and crawling, yet I turn my back to get something.

Anyway, anyone else? Did you go to ER? What did you do?
