I'm sorry. If it makes you feel any better, my oldest was 3.5 when he was finally potty trained. He knew what to do, but he just didn't want to do it, and there was no forcing him. He finally did it when he was ready, and went from diapers to underwear 24/7 with no accidents.

He really liked Thomas the Tank Engine, so I bought him those and when he had an accident, I told him that I was going to give them to another little boy who would take better care of them. That's all it took. Granted he was older and able to understand the concept.

I would just wait it out, too. I know more kids who ended up with weird potty training issues (withholding poop, lots of accidents even though they were just on the potty etc) because the mom pushed too hard before the kid was ready.

I would just wait it out a bit more. No sense in stressing yourself out about it if she just isn't ready.

I totally understand where you're coming from! My daughter was potty trained at 18 months. We simply took away her diapers and 3 accidents later, she was good to go. My son is now 19 months, and while he loves trying on the potty and sometimes tells us when he needs to poop, he's totally inconsistent and nowehere near ready to be out of diapers. I know a lot of people would think we're way ahead, since he's showing so much interest, but I keep thinking he's way behind, compared to DD at this age!

I'm trying to just relax about it. Every kid figures it out in their own time, and surely our kids will get it before they have to go to school. In the keantime, I'm trying not to worry about and I try to make every chance at the potty a positive experience. If Ds wants to sit on the potty and try, we give him some high fives; if he actually goes, we celebrate! If he doesn't want to try, it's no big deal; we just move on and ask again later. I don't want to make it into a struggle, so we ask once if he wants to try and then drop it if he says no. Most of it is really managing my own emotions and expectations so that I continue to keep the potty a positive thing, rather than letting it dominate our whole relationship.

Aw, she will definitely not be in diapers until high school, hah! Every child is different. My cousin's daughter actually did not get potty trained until over age 3. She started holding it for long periods of time and at one point even held her pee for 20 hrs because she was mentally too worked up over it. One day it finally clicked and she realized how good it felt to pee :-) . Maybe take it easy for a while and see how she does in a month or two.

I don't actually have kids but I am a nurse and have studied continence quite thoroughly so hope I might be able to help and make you feel a little better
We have sensors in the muscles of our bladders which send a signal to our brains saying they are being stretched and our bladder is full this then triggers the sphincter of our bladder to open (we can't control this). We then decide it is either time to go and voluntarily release our second sphincter and go for a pee or decide to hold the sphincter closed (as the bladder gets more and more full this becomes harder). A young child does not have control over the second sphincter so when their brain gets the signal they both open and they pee. Because of this they can go from not wanting to go to wet knickers with nothing in-between. It's not something you can teach until they start getting that 'I need to pee' sensation. It just happens and different ages that's all.

Background: My DS started peeing upon being prompted at 2.5 yrs old - we never "trained" per say just offered the potty. 3 months later at 2yrs 9 months his teacher at school said she thought he was ready for underwear - we put him in it and BAM! Done - pee and poop in the potty - It rocked!!!!!

Now comes along DD - everyone says girls are easy to PT...... well my DD was put up in the "Potty Training" room in July and since then they put her on the potty every 2 hours - she peed 1 time.

Last week her teacher had her sit there for 30 mins and not one drop of pee came out!

So I thought I would put her in underwear this weekend thinking maybe she needs to feel being wet - well that was disastrous!! She LOVED wearing underwear but would pee then say "uh-oh I peed" I kept asking her if she had to go and said no - sat her on the potty and nothing - then she would pee her pants. After 6 changes she went back in diapers.

I have tried offering m&ms, tattoos and painting her nails - all of which she wants but still wont pee!

So in 30 days she will be 2yrs 9 months and there is no way she will be PT by then (again this is when her brother was PT'd). I know I shouldn't compare my kids but I mean she wont ever pee in the potty - whats up with that - you would think after 30 mins something would come out - right????

I dread having to "train" my kid especially since my DS was soooo easy!

Do I just let her keep going in the hopes that in the next few months she will pee on the potty? should I push her anymore?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!
