One thing that helped me was being super chatty with the tech and trying to keep her talking. I had gone in at 12 weeks not knowing if we were at risk for a genetic disease (turns out we're not but I did not find this out until after the U/S...of course) so I was terrified of what might appear, plus they were looking for Downs markers due to my age. It helped to keep conversational and she ended up being very reassuring and showing us what we were looking at. It is so stressful though, I don't blame you! Good luck!

@Goldengirl: oh I'm in Canada too. This pregnancy I have had my scans with doc but previously with techs they have all said something. Not always a lot of detail but told me if there was a sac, Yolk, HB etc. but pretty quiet about measurements and stuff though. So many positive vibes being sent your way!

@sslm: yes, Canadian! My doc said it really just depends if you get lucky with a nice tech. We'll see! I'm so nervous. My symptoms have increased quite a bit in severity the past few days. I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything but trying to take it as a good sign. Good luck with the last bit of your pregnancy!

@Goldengirl: I think you said you were in Canada right? Me too, and I was also told the tech wouldn't be able to tell me anything at my ultrasound, but she still did. I had one miscarriage before my daughter, and one before this pregnancy (36 weeks now!). I went for a dating scan at 8w with this one and I was a wreck. The tech was very nice to me. Good luck and thinking of you!

I am also not very good with dealing with ultrasound anxiety. After my empty sac scare a few weeks ago, I honestly just tried getting through my work day and as soon as bed time rolled around for my DD, I curled up in my bed and googled non-stop until I passed out. I didn't sleep well at all and while I put on a happy face for my daughter, I spent a lot of time crying and sulking. A couple days before my scan though, I did start visualizing happy outcomes like @Pachamama: was talking about. I'd lie in bed and walk through the whole ultrasound appointment in my head, always with a happy outcome. It helped me get through the last few days. After experiencing numerous losses, I'll never be the same though. I'll never walk into an ultrasound fully confident, but I think that's pretty normal. I really wish you all the best tomorrow.

@Goldengirl: it took us forever to get pregnant and I was so nervous for ultrasounds. This sounds cheesy, but I would visualize everything looking perfect. Like detailed images of the baby. I used positive imagery throughout my pregnancy and I think it really helped me deal with anxiety.

Honestly? I sucked at dealing with the anxiety. After so much bad news I was a mess. I don't work, so usually I'd stay up all night playing a video game until I was so tired I could just pass out (instead of lying in bed panicking), then sleep till the last possible minute before the scan. I'm not saying I recommend that, but it worked for me.

@Goldengirl: So this might be TMI but most people have a record playing in their head all the time. Also a lot of people don't know that a record is playing! Haha. It is usually just background noise in your head unless you stop and listen.

Usually your parents created this record when you grew up... saying things like you are so smart! you are doing great! or on the flip side - dysfunctional families... you are so dumb!! and such. And when you are a teen you start recording over that record with your own thoughts... like Oh I got an A... I'm so smart! The star football player is dating me, I'm so pretty! or I got an F I must be dumb! Or I got dumped... no one will love me!

Most anxiety comes from this record playing bad messages. So chanting good messages will over write this bad record playing in your head.

One of my bad messages that go in my head use to be... bad things happen to me... of course something bad will happen!! I still hear that record play once in a while but I just try to chant it out.

Good luck! :)

I worried a lot with my second pregancy and I used to worry about life constantly. But I try not to worry too much in general because it stresses me out and that's not good for me or the kids! When I find myself getting anxious I breath deeply, visualize a calm place, and tell myself "BLE", which means Best Life Ever. It's a shortcut way of reminding myself that I cannot control many of the things in my life, but I can make sure I have the Best Day Ever by focusing on the good and being present in the moment. Enough best days will lead up to the Best Life Ever. Good luck with your ultrasound!

I was going to say exactly what @Happygal and @simplyfelicity said. This is just the beginning of all of the worry - it will never go away :) I definitely was nervous for all of my ultrasounds... The most nerve wracking one was the wait between 7 and 8 weeks. I was bleeding and the ultrasound showed the baby at 7 weeks, but with a slow heartbeat. We were preparing for a loss, but luckily, my little girl caught up at 8 weeks and I went on to have a healthy pregnancy. I don't have any advice on how to cope as it's SO hard. Try to watch mindless, silly TV and try to stay off google :) Hopefully you get a nice tech and they will talk you through it. Sending you all of the positive thoughts for tomorrow!

As someone whose had two missed miscarriages discovered via ultrasound, I can say that when everything is going ok, the techs I've had have been pretty chatty. When I lost my pregnancies, those were the times that the techs got dead silent and rushed out the door to find a doctor. The difference was pretty clear in both cases and both times I knew immediately that something was wrong.

In terms of anxiety, I can't really help there. I have had terrible luck so my coping strategy right now is literally to assume the worst and anything other than that is a happy surprise.

Our techs were all pretty chatty! Haha. I hope yours are too!

I feel like I'm a pretty anxious person and so it was hard for me to wait for all these U/S for everything I went through.

Most of the time I had to chant - everything is okay right now, the baby is healthy right now, there is nothing you can do, worrying is not helpful.

I didn't say these things out loud all the time... because that would be weird. ;) But I tried to replay it in my head as often as possible. I read once if you keep telling yourself the same thing over and over again you start to believe it. It worked for me! :)
