@chopsuey119: My cycles have been 26-29 days the last few months, so hopefully our EDD is right on track and growth will be textbook.

@jessiejo17: They want to make sure all is well before they pair me up with a perinatal doc, so this will definitely be one of the next steps. We're really excited. :)

@winniebee: Since I am high risk, I'll get an ultrasound every 3-4 weeks from here on out. They have a wonderful perinatal clinic that meets with high risk moms every week. You get into your room after doing your vitals and the nutritionist, diabetes nurse, and doctor each take turns visiting you. The diabetes nurse will look over glucose levels and make medication adjustments while the nutritionist looks at what I'm eating and how I feel about it (never hungry, can't keep a particular something down), and then the doc does an u/s and handles the rest of my care.

Will you be able to get one after 5 wks if you get this one and can see something? Usually you can see a HB by 6.5-7 weeks so if you want to see a HB you could wait another week and a half.

My OB wanted me to come in early, but I told them that my cycle was longer than usual so we pushed my first appt back to may 4! I don't want to "waste" an ultrasound and not see anything.
So excited to see the yolksac + heartbeat!

When I was pregnant, I had a vaginal u/s at around 6 weeks because I had some spotting and we got to see the heart beating! I had only known I was pregnant for a couple weeks, so that was a really fun surprise (despite the stress of spotting). It looked like a little light blinking on and off, so of course we started calling the baby Blinky.

I had one at about 5.5 weeks, they were double checking for ectopic. We saw the sac and the 'baby' but no heartbeat. Be prepared that they might do an internal us to try to pick up the heartbeat. I forgot to warn dh, he was like a dear in headlights. Lol.

@MaisyMay: My first ultrasound at 5 weeks 6 days they couldn't see a heartbeat, but it was in the ER and their equipment is not as high-tech. My first ultrasound at my clinic was at 6 weeks 1 day and they could see a heartbeat. Their equipment is much better in a high risk clinic than in the ER!

@Coco Bee: Yeah, I'm a type 2 diabetic and had a miscarriage last summer, so I know that they're trying to prevent that this time if possible. Our miscarriage was near 8 weeks, but the baby stopped growing at 6w3d and they want to keep the two of us as healthy as possible.

So I told my insurance/doctor that I was pregnant today and they forwarded my info to perinatal. When perinatal called me to check in and see how I am doing, they asked if I wanted an ultrasound next week even though I'll only be about 5w4d at the time. She said that we may not be able to see something, but if we do, they can set up my first appt with the peri dr, something they can't do until they see that the pregnancy is viable. If we can't see anything that day, we'll go back in a week or two. I definitely said yes! My high-risk clinic will have me getting ultasounds every 2-4 weeks, which is pretty awesome, but I was surprised that they were asking me to come in so early.

Would you go in for an ultrasound that early?
